If by "DD" you mean TMPGEnc DVD Author then no. You must first encode the avi to MPEG2. Since you have the ac3 plugin there'll be no need to encode the audio, only the video if you wish. To encode the video you can use TMPGEnc Plus (free 30-day trial).

  3. DD = Dolby Digital (ac3)
And you are right - need to be mpeg2.

    Hi,
TMPGEnc DVD Author does not encode AVI files. I have had a lot of problems with other encoders until I found TMPGEnc Xpress (really fast and high quality encodes).. depending on your CPU speed. Convert with TMPGEnc Xpress (make sure you have the AC3 Plugin installed) than you can just encode the movie to AC3 audio so your movie has better audio.. and than you can author using TMPGEnc DVD Author..

haha, you must be kidding. TMPGEnc is known to be one of the slowest MPEG2 encoders ESPECIALLY the Xpress version... Get TMPGEnc Plus, dont get Xpress. Its faster and is equal in quality.
