Hi, heres my problem.
Is there any way in which i can put wmv or avi files onto a DVD disc which will work on my DVD player???
My dvd can play most file types.
Also i borroed a VCD from my firend, which worked on my DVD player. So in order to make him a backup I copyied the disc straight to another CD R. When i tried this on my DVD player it did not work! What can i do to fix the problem?
thanx

Exactly how did you copy that VCD (software/burner/settings etc)

Well when i copied the vcd i simply copied the files from the disc to my HDD.
I then proceded to copy and paste the files to the disc drive, in which i then copied using the computers built in thingy. But that didn't work!
I have nero burning rom but every time i use it all it does is create an image on me HDD and when i click on it it does not allow me to burn it to a disc! lol
I have Roxio easy CD creator 5 - but now that i don't have the original disc i cannot use it.
So what shall i do? is there any freeare which copies files to a disc, which is a VCD and not a data disc, like my copy was?
thanx -
just guessing here, but I think you have 2 options.
1) In Nero, use the disc copy wizard.
or
2) If you copy the CD-R to your computer, I believe you have to convert the *.dat file to mpeg1 and then burn in Nero as VCD. I am pretty sure there is a tutorial on this site that shows how to do that. -

For maximum compatabilty, you need to convert your video files, WMV, AVI etc to a DVD compliant MPG file and then author the MPG. There are a ton of guides on this site for exactly this process.
If you are not bothered about ypur discs playing in other standalone players, you will need to check the specs of your player to see what formats are supported. Check the DVD player list on the menu on the left.
As for copying, I use Nero 5.10 and that will burn a disc image to the HD and then you simply burn the image back to your CD. You cannot just copy the files using cut-and-paste. The structure on your CD must follow VCD standards
Finally if you want to copy and burn DVDs, you can get better than downloading DVDDecrypter. **** Free ****
mate, you sound like your new, which is no problem, but I would suggest ypu invest in some rewritables and experiment a bit.
have fun

Please be more precise than statements such as "the built-in thingy". This terminology is not very helpful.
Suggest you do some reading up on the various formats, starting with the "what is" section. This will answer many of your current questions, also many that you will be asking immediately after those get answered.
