Try using this instead of dv2avi,dgindex via directshow avisynth-you will get better quality as the decoder incorporates post-processing(blocks gone with no time lost, and skin looks like skin!!)-choice of deinterlacing method-no deinterlacing if you prefer- including choice of going for double dct precision (only for perfection fetishists-extremely slow)
Try using it for vcd playback-i could manage only via graphedit-the postprocessing makes a huge difference-the microsoft decoder has two choices-color and no color
Looks to be free for home users as it says buy for OEM
