Like if a program is longer than 2hrs, after recording 2hrs to the current disc, can I eject that, put a new one in and resume recording, then finalize both discs after I'm done recording?

Sure ... just the pause the program your watching and then hit STOP ... and let the dvd recorder write the info it needs to write and then pop out the disk ... pop in another one ... wait until the DVD Recorder recognizes it and then ... at the same time ... un-pause the program your watching and hit the RECORD button.
OR ... use the second DVD Recorder you have in the bed room [I do] ... and when it gets close to the 2 hour mark ... fire up the other DVD Recorder and then use DVD Shrink to join the two disks together ... very simple. -
I think you would have to still finalize each disk.
What I don't get though..
If your first recorder (or recording project) is not complete, because
your movie is longer then the size of your disk, you still have to
finalize it (close it out) and start up another one.
But, if you want to recording something, and then stop it, so that you
can record something else, then you don't have to finalize the first
recording project. Just stop (or pause) it, let it write junk, and
then eject the disk, and pop in another one, and go do your stuff.
But, remember to pre-initialize all your disks, so that things start
up real quick, rather than having the disk go through the initial
stages of things first.

FYI, If your pioneer operates like my dvdr7000 the vr 2 hour mode is capable of recording up to about 2 hours and 10 minutes in full d-1 resolution. This is what I do for those programs just a little over, then re-author on computer to improve compatability (most standalones won't play vr discs). For programs way over I use 4 hour mode as this is half d-1 and still dvd compliant avoiding a reencode later.

Finalize is what you do when your completely done.
I have several times ... hit the stop button and a blue square box appears saying it is writing info ... for a few seconds ... perhaps several seconds.
.... I then pop in another disk.
But ... in the meantime ... if it is a live TV Show ... 2 or more minutes will be lost while this is going on.
If you finalize the disk ... ooohh weee .... even more time will be lost ... especially if you use the text editor for adding some info ... B4 ... finalizing. -
yeah, this is in regards to recording live TV. I was just asking because I didn't know how much the recorder could hold before it got full. I thought that whatever you recorded, it was being written onto the disk, or does it have some sorta internal hardrive it records to, then finalizes on DVD? because if it's writing data onto the disc, and when you hit stop REC, then you should be able to eject it and pop it back in whenever to finalize, no?

Yes. If you change to a second disc (like during commercials, for example) while you are recording a long program, you can finalize the first disc later.
