I burned a collection of AVI's (home movies) to a Memorex Dual-layer DVD+R. I used the software ConvertXtoDVD to make the DVD files, and burned it with Nero at the slowest speed. I've successfully used this software countless times in the past. The burner I used, in my PC, is a Hitachi/LG GSA-H40N with RG01 firmware.

This created disc works fine on my PC at the office, and works fine with an LG DVD player at the office. At home, the disc will not play in my Pioneer DVR-220, nor will it play on my Pioneer DV-444

Anyone have any thoughts on this? It seems pretty straightforward. Is it Pioneer? Are there firmware updates that would help? I cannot find any firmware updates for my Pioneer equipment...

Appreciate any help you can give me. I hope I'm in the correct forum.
    Thanks,
    Jack

No the problem isn't the PIONEER 220-S recorder. The problem is the MEMOREX DUAL LAYER DVD MEDIA that you used. For DUAL LAYER MEDIA use only VERBATIM DUAL LAYER DISC. MEMOREX is considered crappy media to use. Do a search on DUAL LAYER MEDIA & you'll see the only brand to use is VERBATIM.

While budz may be right, I have seen some (usually older) DVD players that simply will NOT play ANY DVD+R DL discs, not even ones made properly on Made in Singapore Verbatim DVD+R DL discs.

Burning with Nero is also a VERY BAD IDEA. Nero may not set the layer break correctly. You are strongly advised to use ImgBurn for burning and Verbatim DVD+R DL discs for best chance of success.

The Pioneer DVR-225, which came out after the 220, does not play any DVD+R DL -- not even Singapore-made Verbatims burnt with ImgBurn.

jman98 is correct that some older dvd players & even dvd recorders aren't capable of DUAL LAYER media.

Here's a link for the PIONEER 220-S manual:

    http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/products/archive/DVR-220-S/index.html

It doesn't list playback for DVD+R DUAL LAYER media.
