  1. Is there any difference or preference in mfg. date of the HR04 I can get one either mfg, July 04 or Oct. 04.

  2. I had 1 of each and found no difference. I would tend to go with the newer manufacture date though, since there are probably some circuit and mainboard modifications.

That is the only differance I noticed on the few I have looked inside of. If you look closely there is a little wire on the top side of the main board that has been sordered there on the july one that is not there on the oct one.

Could that have fixed the whining sound that recorded itself from the front inputs?

Probably not. The buzz from the front inputs is from the ribbon cable for the inputs being to close to the display they are using in the recorder. The display is not LCD, and is causing line noise at the inputs.

  6. I think it had more to do with highmat whatever that was. I found that many of these with that wire had a sticker on the outside of the box that said highmat fixed. Like they where sent back and refurbished.

  7. Sorry I didn’t respond sooner. My Internet provider had problems; the DSL would not work. I went to dial up, that crapped out and so did the phone. Tried to use the cell phone and the battery was dead. I forgot to charge it.

As to the HR04!!! Good advice, I got the later mfg. unit. I asked because sometimes a manufacture, under pressure, will make it more difficult or impossible to make changes in a later model. I took a look at the ribbon cable, in an open unit that was mentioned as a cause of a buzz or wine. I can see what you mean about picking up noise from the display It looks a though the front panel will come off although I haven’t removed it yet. Its plastic with snap on fittings but it could be that some other fasteners are holding it. I didn’t want to break it. I thought that encasing it in a light metal shield from the main board to the jacks with ground would correct the problem. The access slot through the rear panel could be a problem. I was also looking at the use of a HDD rack to take the drive to a PC. Guitar Man mentioned this, in another forum. The unit looks pretty good and the fact that it can be modified and is supported is a plus. As I understand it the recorder places a MPEG 1 or 2 on the disk or HDD that will play. The recorder will put a large file on the HDD but not record or copy a DL disk to another disk, If the complete file is transferred to a PCI can Decrypter or Shrink be used. I have satellite TV and would like to have the recorder activated by the satellite receiver. It does so at present. I don’t know way it can’t if the proper remote code was entered and the satellite receiver will recognize it. Ilo doesn’t seem to have much info. I think I’m just going to quit screwing around, start processing and burning some disks. A lot of bummers I bet. There is a lot of info on this web but a guy could go nuts looking for it. The forum’s are enormous
What wire? Now I have to look for that. I was trying to avoid it but I can't.

  8. Sorry for low quality pix. My son has my digital cam so had to use web cam. But you will see where to look.

  9. Thanks for the pix. I agree, what is highmat? What does it do. I guess ilo knows they fixed it, but why? What was the problem that the unit should not have? Is this on another forum? The HRo4 that I have doesn't have the wire

  10. Correction
In a previous responce I ment ( transfered to a PC not PCI). Do some of my comments (questions) belong on another forum. Are they already answered in another forum? I know. I have looked, I don't think I have that many years left.
