Is there any difference or preference in mfg. date of the HR04 I can get one either mfg, July 04 or Oct. 04.

I had 1 of each and found no difference. I would tend to go with the newer manufacture date though, since there are probably some circuit and mainboard modifications.

Sorry I didn’t respond sooner. My Internet provider had problems; the DSL would not work. I went to dial up, that crapped out and so did the phone. Tried to use the cell phone and the battery was dead. I forgot to charge it.
As to the HR04!!! Good advice, I got the later mfg. unit. I asked because sometimes a manufacture, under pressure, will make it more difficult or impossible to make changes in a later model. I took a look at the ribbon cable, in an open unit that was mentioned as a cause of a buzz or wine. I can see what you mean about picking up noise from the display It looks a though the front panel will come off although I haven’t removed it yet. Its plastic with snap on fittings but it could be that some other fasteners are holding it. I didn’t want to break it. I thought that encasing it in a light metal shield from the main board to the jacks with ground would correct the problem. The access slot through the rear panel could be a problem. I was also looking at the use of a HDD rack to take the drive to a PC. Guitar Man mentioned this, in another forum. The unit looks pretty good and the fact that it can be modified and is supported is a plus. As I understand it the recorder places a MPEG 1 or 2 on the disk or HDD that will play. The recorder will put a large file on the HDD but not record or copy a DL disk to another disk, If the complete file is transferred to a PCI can Decrypter or Shrink be used. I have satellite TV and would like to have the recorder activated by the satellite receiver. It does so at present. I don’t know way it can’t if the proper remote code was entered and the satellite receiver will recognize it. Ilo doesn’t seem to have much info. I think I’m just going to quit screwing around, start processing and burning some disks. A lot of bummers I bet. There is a lot of info on this web but a guy could go nuts looking for it. The forum’s are enormous
What wire? Now I have to look for that. I was trying to avoid it but I can't. -
Sorry for low quality pix. My son has my digital cam so had to use web cam. But you will see where to look.

Thanks for the pix. I agree, what is highmat? What does it do. I guess ilo knows they fixed it, but why? What was the problem that the unit should not have? Is this on another forum? The HRo4 that I have doesn't have the wire

Correction
In a previous responce I ment ( transfered to a PC not PCI). Do some of my comments (questions) belong on another forum. Are they already answered in another forum? I know. I have looked, I don't think I have that many years left. -
Here is the info on what HighMAT is.
What is HighMAT?
