  1. Hello, I'm trying to make some use of my (expletive, expletive, expletive) iloDVDR05ZU DVD recorder. Basically I can still feed a VHS signal thru the recorder and view this signal when the recorder is in bypass mode (or something to that extent) now my question is: Can I take this signal and directly feed it to my PC by wiring it to output the signal via USB(2.0) or Cat 5 cable? I don't have a video input on my videocard but isn't there a way to capture this signal if it's in this format. I'm no electronic technician nor do I completely understand all there is to undertake this project, that's why I'm here. So if anyone can share some input or advice about how this can (or can't be done) I'd be most grateful!!! And if I had the money obviously I'd just do whatever would be easiest, however I don't, so please don't offer any similarly related types of suggestions, and beyond that I'd really like to make some use outta this DVD recorder that prolly lasted me a total of 3 months. I've looked up how to make a PVR, but not getting the info I need. So please, if anyone has any knowledge of how to go about this in any possible way please help me out. otherwise I'm stuck using my crappy Dazzle DVC80 which has max screen resolution of 320x240, and I just don't think that it's worth the the quality. So that's my problem, just trying to make lemonade, . . .ya know from a lemon!!

Bottom line, you need hardware (TV/capture card) to receive and decode the video signal output of the recorder. You could use an internal card or an external USB model. There is no cheap easy way to convert RF video into tcp/ip data on Cat 5 or digital data on USB. You need new hardware.

  3. Then I'm misunderstood in what I thought I read about the ilo DVDR04 burners' ability to being removed for a replacement burner, or to a HDD? And yes I know that I have A DVDR05, and that the DVDR04 are prolly manufactured by entirely different outfits. Perhaps I didn't detail or describe what I thought was possible in my original post, or could it be true as stated in response that most likely I just need new hardware? How will the children afford college, and little kitsches' baby sister, who's gonna tell her that her big brother ilo is DEAD? Who's gonna be there when.... But seriously, is there no way to reroute the data that would normally be headed into the units' burner and take this signal into my pc to be captured\encoded onto a designated drive? I have many different cables about my house such as IDE to USB ; S-Video to composite, and many more. So it wouldn't matter how many different cables I have about the house, because I must resign to getting new/more hardware, please say it isn't so!!! Is there no more lemonade?

Have you tried opening it up and looking? If it is using standard IDE cables, then feel free to try it. You will probably find out that the files are written in some proprietary format and waste more time and effort converting them, if it is even possible.

Seems like much less hassle to just spend the $25 on a TV capture card.
