My Philips DVD-703 player is running to my Philips FR965 receiver. I've been using the composite video for the connection. That works. When I try to use the S-video output to the receiver, I get no picture.

Is there some setting on the player to switch outputs? Is it a setting on the receiver to change inputs? The manual says nothing about this.

I've been lurking on this site for a year, and this is my first question. I'm just getting comfortable enough in my abilities to someday answer other people's questions. Thanks for any help.

  2. Are you using s-video out of the receiver? Whatever you use as an input has to be used for output too, the receiver won't convert from s-video to composite.

:P Oops, that makes sense. Don't know why I didn't think of that.

Hopefully, the next time I ask a question, it won't be such a newbie type.

    Thanks

Even if it does sort of convert it will most likely be in black & white.

Also some DVD players require you to activate the S-video.

I have Phillips Q 35 and you must select between S-video and Component (not composite, component the type with three cables jsut for video).
    snappy phrase

    I don't know what you're talking about.
