Hi guys we have a big problem, first off all we have a tv called KONKA that has a built in dvd player that doesnt work so we bought a dvd player for it, standard dvd player 3 cables red white and yellow we have attached them definetly in the right place and connected them to the tv definetly to the right place as they are all colour coded and theres no where else to plug in any other leads. When we turn on the tv you get two options dvd and av , the dvd seems to be connected to the 1 that is built into the tv ( but like i said thats broken) so if you go onto av that still doesnt work BUT you can hear the dvd on both of these so whats going on we can hear it but cant see it WHY???? its driving us mad and im sure its something simple any help appreciated cheers people!HELP???

Konka is a brand name/manufacturer, not a specific TV. I used to have a small 13" TV from them, as I recall.

The 'DVD' setting is probably for something connected through component cables, if you have the connections (I believe the colors of the connections include green and blue; my mind's not quite with me tonight (I rarely deal with component connections, that's why...)). Do you have anything else you could connect to the TV's red/white/yellow RCA A/V jacks, like a game system, to test whether or not they're working correctly?

Which model DVD player, just for the sake of anyone who might be reading this and want to know?

(Edit: Component connections still use the red/white audio cable connections, so that's why you can hear it on the 'DVD' (component) setting.)
(Edit #2: Yeah, the 'DVD' setting most likely IS for the TV's built-in DVD player, alone, and not component. I did say my mind wasn't with me, tonight. But, I still wonder if the A/V jacks are working correctly, if you've otherwise connected the R/W/Y cables to the correct jacks on the back of the external DVD player and the TV.)

tiger_leeds,next time you post please use a title that describes your problem, for this time i changed it for you.Component cables are red, blue and green, composite are yellow(video),white and red(audio).

Make sure you got the right inputs plugged in,if there is an av2 input for composite cables try that. Also try another set of cables to make sure its not a cable problem.

Also if you get no video from your built-in dvd player and none from the external dvd player then there might be a problem with the tv/dvd unit itself.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

Did you try testing the connections, using a different piece of hardware (like a game system, or VCR), and setting the TV to 'AV' mode? But before you do that, perhaps you could take pictures of the connections on the back of your TV and DVD player (with the cables connected), and post them here, so we can see if you do have something connected incorrectly?
