    Hello,

Ok let's post your MOVIE QUESTIONS here. Little tidbits or major plot oversights of movies past and present. I'll start

Ok in the MATRIX they say that the whole world is just a recreation and they use the body heat of humans to power the machines. OK that's understandable. But when they say that the world is in the end of the 20th century at the "peak of humanity" how do they fake the time???? I mean this is supposed to be 2199 (or so they estimate).

What I wonder is how are they supposed to keep the ILLUSION real from generation to generation??? You've got however many billions of people slaved to the matrix to power the machines. Then you've got to feed them the illusion that its our "modern day" time period. But what happens in realtime??? They never bother to explain what happens in the simulation after twenty years of time, or fifty or hundred..... See what I'm getting at??? Does it always stay the 20th century???

Now in RELOADED they talk about "the one" and 6 versions since the original matrix. So they go and blow up all ZION and then start over. Does the MATRIX reset itself to 1990??????????

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Movie 2 - Back to the Future.

Ok I've listened to the commentary on the trilogy dvd set. They said that the MCFLY house in 1985 is right near a POWER LINE tower to signify lower middle class standing. But in the "corrected" 1985 reality after Marty comes back at the end of the first movie they are in the same house! I mean they're supposed to be more well off now and he even has his own truck now. But why would they still live in the same house???? And why wouldn't Marty remember the changes once he returned to the "corrected" 1985?? I mean now he has come to the present that has been altered. There aren't two Marty's in 1985 now so he should "remember" the changes in the timeline.

Also another gripe about the "altered" 1985 - The father is now a writer. But his "FIRST" novel??? WTF??? What the heck has he been doing since getting out of highschool/college???? Unless he was a writer at a newspaper or something you can't raise a family as a writer and not be PUBLISHED for twenty years.......

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok griping over for now... Those were just two examples I was noticing recently after watching my dvds recently.....

So thoughts??? More questions?? How about other movies with glaring Plot Oversights?????

movie 1 -- hey, its the matrix , anything is possible. There are a huge number of mistakes in that movie(s) anyway, almost as many as spiderman (or star warez)

movie 2 - it jut a fun movie, its just meant for entertainment .. --- time travel always has issues that cant be covered to well ....

lot of movie trivia and goofs here (as well as on IMDB) http://www.jonhs.com/moviegoofs/

    Best time travel:

I will get arguements , but it's Time Cop.

  4. Time Cop was entertaining however Quiet Earth is
the best "reality-time-space" travel I've seen to date.

The sequals to Time Cop were just low rent.
    Buckaroo Banzai was also entertaining.

    Never any Time Cop sequels.

I take back my earlier comment.

I think Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy as the best time travel.

Yoda those questions are too serious, but good points.

Why is it that there's always a Mexican standoff with a bunch of people pointing guns at each other in all of Tarantino's flicks?

Matrix: Each time the matrix resets it gets better and better at what it does. But the bug Neo always comes along and jacks it up. So I doubt its ran long enough to create a that problem at any one stretch of time. At least I assume.

However since they could reset it and still keep it going I assume thats what they would do. I also assume it must be a huge pain in the ass, causing the loss of many humans.

Having a simulation of the 20th centurty turn into a simulation where they develop all this tech then the machines take over and enslave them would be a pointless waste.

Of course lets not even touch on the idea of how that might in fact be a better matrix. I can't accept this "real world" so I escape and find out we are enslaved by machines that I will now fight. Sad that the world is crap now. When in reality that world is also a lie and maybe the world is an ok place but with no humans.

If you won't accept an ok world your likely to think the crap one is real. I'l leave that discussion to another time.

Well guess I did touch on it....

Cause its f-ing cool and allows for interesting dialog.

NOW FOR MINE. Though it has no exact answer.

Why! Why is Uwe Boll allowed to continue to direct movies? It not like there are not better directors out there. Sheesh.

megaedit: its like he was given money by someone to make a film handed them a steaming turd then got a letter in return saying "Great job! Here is more money!"

    Time travel = Donnie Darko

New director's cut may be better suited for first-time viewers but I think I like the original cut better (plus the extras on the first release were a lot better).

I need to see the directors cut. I love that movie. However I think Donnie Darko is very confusing ot many people. And I can kinda understand why. You usually have to chew on it a bit to get it.

I saw donnie darko once, and this was around the time of the dvd release. in my understanding, he had some kind of preminition about the time following the engine crashing into his house, and then chose to stay in bed and die.

perhaps i remember it wrong though. i didn't really see the big deal or why it has such a stout following.

I would love to have a wall poster of the last scene of that film, showing Bruno Lawrence standing on an empty beach ... looking toward the horizon to see a rising (ulp) "ringed planet."

BTW, speaking of "ringed planets," I saw an interesting news snippet the other day. Scientists have long thought that Saturn, like Jupiter, is a "gas giant" with no solid surface to speak of. And, from telescope observations, Saturn's atmosphere appears yellow. But recently, the Cassini probe sent back pictures showing Saturn's northern hemisphere as having "blue sky" ... hinting that maybe, like Earth, it might be indicative of life on Saturn.

While it may be too far from the Sun to be warmed by its heat, planets mostly composed of gas generally have hot cores that may provide enough heat to sustain life. And, the blue sky might indicate vegetation of some sort (and a solid surface supporting it that just hasn't been discovered yet). Woo Woo...

But getting back on topic (things scriptwriters didn't explain), I'm wondering about the opening scene of Disney's "Song Of The South." It doesn't really explain why the family is moving in with a parent. One could assume its due to financial misfortunes following the Civil War ... but, even that doesn't explain why the father leaves his wife and child to return to Atlanta. All he says is that he has a job to do ... but doesn't indicate what that job is.

    ***spoilers and hijack alert***

In Donnie Darko he actually crossed over to a splinter timeline very similar to his own that was doomed to be destroyed by the "God Machine" that creates and destroys all. In the director's cut they slip in a lot more excerpts from the book Donnie is reading that explains a lot more of what is going on in the alternate timeline. Some of the people in the alternate timeline are actually aware that this timeline is not their own and that Donnie is the reason behind it. Some are controlled by the Deus Ex Machina to help Donnie close this timeline and save the real timeline/universe. After he does finally save the real timeline, ultimately by giving his life to close the portal that causes it all (remember the engine that kills him is technically from the future end of the alternate timeline), you can see that those that were part of the alternate timeline that were not controlled can vaguely get a notion of the events that transpired in the alternate timeline. That's why the pedophile is crying in his room, the psychologist is terrified about something happening, the teacher shaken by her false prophet realization in the night, and Frank perhaps realizing his doom because of the bunny suit in that other timeline. However you'll notice that his girlfriend and English teacher don't seem affected because they were controlled by the God Machine to bring Donnie to fix the world.

When I first saw the movie I had a vague notion that they were working the Deus Ex Machina mythos. The Director's Cut does a better job of explaining this, especially in the commentary (oddly featuring Kevin Smith). It also has an enhanced soundtrack so more dialogue is noticeable. I liked the old version for some of the different scenes (I believe the old one explains how the jet engine has the same serial as an existing engine, the one eventually flown by Mrs. Darko) and "Killing Moon" having a more prominent part of the film (it's hushed in the new cut).

I'm not a huge fanatic of the film but I was throughly interested by the ideas put forth in it, and there is some great acting and a chilling plot to go with it all. One of the few movies you can watch with some friends and spend hours talking about it afterward.

Did ever notice how rarely people use the bathroom in movies?

People are always complaining about not showing reloading of guns, but Natalie takes never takes a crap. In either of the Prequels that have been released.

I wanna see Senator Amidala take a crap.

Who wants to see a guy reloading a gun during an action seen? And why?

Failing that, a poster of Lawrence in the silk teddy screaming from the balcony at the cardboard
audience. No seriously... That scene & poster with the weird clouds and ringed planet was truly alien and is what drew me to see the film in the 1st place.

With regards to Donnie Darko, I found the film more interesting than entertaining. It is obviously a landmark production but like another film, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, I am not a huge fan by any means. I think most of the fan base comes from those that liked the Frank character and those that lapped up the overtly religious references. Not that I always hate religion in films, but I prefer the mystical such as portrayed in Babylon 5 rather than the ordinary base christian fair you see in films like Event Horizon.

Well...here are some movies you might want to rent if you wanna see characters using the john -

Twenty-One (Patsy Kensit on the pot and you even get to see her wipe)

When The Party's Over (Sandra Bullock, Rae Dawn Chong and Elizabeth Berridge all take turns using the same toilet)

Women in Film (Beverly D'Angelo and Portia de Rossi both have scenes on the pot)

Fun With Dick And Jane (Jane Fonda candidly uses the toilet while talking with George Segal)

California Dreaming (Glynnis O'Connor lifts her nightgown starting to undress as she casually walks into the bathroom to her surprise to find Dennis Christopher using the crapper)

Just One Of The Guys (Clayton Rohner makes use of the urnal while talking with Joyce Hyser in the men's room)

Last Tango In Paris (kids outside taking a dump)

Something Wild (Melanie Griffith on the pot)

Liebestraum (rather lengthy scene of a drunk urinating)

The Exorcist (Linda Blair urinates on the floor in front of a household of guests)

Dreamspeaker (graphic scene of young and distrubed Ian Tracey urinating on the desk in a shelter)

Cheech & Chong's Up In Smoke (Cheech & Chong both get take a turn urinating on Stacy Keach's leg)

The Hollywood Knights (the guys spike the punch bowl)

Benji (Benji, the dog, lifts his leg on the fire hydrant)

Intermission (Colin Farrell gets urinated on)

The End (Burt Reynolds urinates while Dom DeLuise listens in outside the door)

Kramer Vs. Kramer, Shakes The Clown. many others.

You're likely to see a lot such things in a Pasolini film as well...The Decameron and Canterbury Tales spring to mind.

It's very commonplace in many Euorpean films.

And you'd usually hear the toilet flushing on the TV show, All In The Family before Archie Bunker came down the stairs.

There's also a brief scene at the beginning of "Eyes Wide Shut" where Nicole Kidman is sitting on the crapper just before she & Tom Cruise leave for the party. And in "Forrest Gump," Gary Sinese sits on an outdoor crapper while talking to Tom Hanks. And with Tom Hanks again, there's a few scenes showing him in the E-Block bathroom ("Green Mile") struggling to piss with a urinary infection.

I know I left out a bunch - those were what first came to mind.

How'd I forget the explicit scene from Sweet Movie with John Vernon
urinating on his bride on their wedding night
No props there - it's the real deal

Huey Lewis making use of the great outdoors in Short Cuts

Treat Williams urinating on Beverly D'Angelo's picture in a newspaper in Hair...then pics it up and shows it to John Savage

And some funny scenes in Heaven Help Us (which really needs to be put out on DVD)

There are more...but I'd really have to think since I don't usually takes notes on this sort of thing :P

Wonder if there are any websites on this subject
