Hello people. I’m even newer than a newbie so please be very gentle. I have almost no experience of any video work. I have a video project which I have to complete on my own before June. I have been going through the forums and guides for weeks on Videohelp.com but so far have been unsuccessful mostly. Although I found many guides related to what I want to do, but so far either my own attempts failed, or the guides led to dead ends. So I have decided to ask the experts here. I need to do more than one thing so I shall write one by one. (I would be grateful if somebody can give me youtube links for video tutorials because I don’t have enough time for experiments and also I would prefer to get this project done using free software).
1: I need to rip DVDs into Divx format, with permanent subtitles. I need a good software which can automatically rip DVDs into Divx format as well as embed permanent subtitles into the video during the ripping process. (Note: I found a guide about this which suggested the use of AutoGk. But the problem is that you first have to rip the subtitles and create the srt file. And then using the F8 function, you have to join the subtitle file with the video. I followed everything in that guide but neither Subrip nor DVDSubEdit completely ripped the Subtitles. Many of the sentences were missing. I manually tried to correct them, and then ripped the DVD with AutoGk, but the subtitles started to appear way too early and totally out of sync. So the whole thing failed. Please tell me if there is a DVD ripper which can automatically embed permanent subtitles into the video while ripping it).
2: I need to create DVD9s with chapters and titles. After ripping some DVDs with permanent and some with non-permanent subtitles, I have to take both kinds of ripped videos and put them in separate DVD9s. One with permanent and the other with non-permanent subtitles.
3: I need to take little video clips from different videos and then join them together. I would like a software which can take video clips from both DVDs and VCDs. (Note: I haven’t found a good and easy clip making software yet, but I did try to join some already available clips together in Windows Movie Maker. Although it did join them, but between all those clips there were pauses of at least a second. So the final video doesn’t look good. I need a software, preferably freeware which can perform both these tasks and gives a good end result. And please also tell me if it is possible to eliminate those pauses in Windows Movie Maker.
4: I need to know how to create both permanent and non-permanent subtitles from the beginning and how join them with the videos.
5: I need a good translation software for translating subtitles of some videos into other languages. I need to translate the subtitles from English to Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, German, Tamil, Arabic and if possible, Korean, Portuguese and Ukrainian as well.
6: After that, I have to turn all the translations into subtitles. Please tell me what changes do I have to make in my pc to make the other languages display correctly. And how can I create and join subtitles in other languages and join them with the videos.
I know that all of this might sound a bit strange, and some of my requests above might not even belong in the same forum, but I’m in a very desperate situation here and would request you to please be very gentle and guide me towards the right direction. I shall be very very grateful.
Thank you so much in advance.

1. Nope, you don't have to rip to srt. Just be sure to load the ifo file from the dvd video_ts folder and autogk can make hardcoded subtitles. Or use FairUse Wizard.
2.From what source? and why permanent subtitles?
3. You wont find any good free vcd,dvd mpeg joiner. I would use mpeg video wizard dvd or tmpgenc dvd author.
And I changed your topic subject so it better describes some of your problems. -
Thank you so much for your reply Baldrick. You answered only three of my questions, can you kindly tell me if there are other threads on the forum which gives the answers to the rest of my questions? I'll be really grateful.
In answer no 1, you mentioned that I don't need to rip the subtitles file to .srt. Actually that's what I did when I first used AutoGk. I just chose the IFO file as source. But there were no subtitles on the finished video. When I tried the other method of using external subtitles through the F8 function, the subtitles did appear on the finished video but they started appearing too early. So what am I doing wrong?
2: I have many DVDs with only a few minutes of footage. I want to put them all in DVD9s, which, if I understand correctly, have more space than a regular 120 minutes DVDR. Not all of them are to be viewed on DVD players. Some of them, are to be used for small video devices with no support for subtitles and some of them are to be used on the internet. So I would like to put permanat subtitle on some of those. Which can only be done if you answer Question no.4.
3: Ok, no free joiner, but what about a video cutter or a clip maker?
Thanks again for you reply and please tell me where can I get the answers to the rest of my questions. -
1- You can use Avi.net / Autogk / DrDivx to convert the ripped dvd to avi(divx/xvid) with Avi.net / Autogk or divx with Drdivx, if your subtitles arent being picked by any of these programs there must be something wrong with your pc or you forgot to rip the subs from the dvd.
2- DVD LAB PRO
3- U can sort of "join" mpeg1(vcd) and Mpeg2(dvd) with DVDLAB PRO, import the clips to dvdlab Pro and put each clip in its own VTS and then make sure that clip 2 plays after clip1, clip 3 plays after clip 2 and so on. since dvdlab pro accepts mpeg1 and will trancode the audio from 41000 to 48000 you wont have to reconvert the video.
Videos nedd to have same resolution to be joined and since you say you have vcd and dvd clips it wont be possible unless you rconvert thenm all to dvd format but you'll looose quality, thats why i recommend the dvdlab pro (play one clip after another) because you wont have to recompress.
4- Divxland subtitler to create subs
5- Google translate, but remember its a machine translating, might be worth to open a forum and invite people from different countries to translate it for you, visit subtitles forums, theres hundreds of them and ask for help.
6- no idea
All the questions you asked involve a lot of reading and trial and error by yourself, i've a been a member of this forum for a few years and im still learning.
theres loads of guides here on the forum and theres a easy one on the front page done by baldrick to burn permanent subs that you can use to burn permanent subs to dvd by selecting the dvd profile instead of mp4 profile

Thanks for you reply above. I'm still working on your suggestions.
Right now, my main problem is that I have copied a few clips and a few complete movies to my hard drive using DVD Shrink. And I want to convert them all to .avi files with permanent subtitles. I have tried a few programmes for that purpose. But I haven't found one which can do this to DVDs which are already on my hard drive. Only AutoGk seems to have this option. But the problem is that, the AutoGk processed videos are not showing any subtitles. I have spent many days trying to search for answers but failed. Not I'm really frustrated and pulling my hair. So I'm writing you again for help.
Here is a screenshot of the basic options I'm using in AutoGk.(http://img249.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=37132_Cap_122_337lo.jpg)
I've been experimenting with AutoGk for days. Trying different things and selecting different options. But nothing has worked so far.
You mentioned in your post that there might be something wrong with my computer since it's AutoGk is not showing the subs. So I think I should mention that, I copied a DVD to my HD using Fairuse Wizard. And the subtitles did appear on the finished video. But again, I couldn't process any DVDs, already present on my HD, using Fairuse Wizard.
Please help.
Thanks You. -
