  1. Hello, Hopefully right forum

Now that I decided to get the Lite-On 1633S drive

My question is: Would there be a benefit to me to start using their bitsetting utility to set the booktype, given that the disks I created in My Sony's never had that done and play evrywhere I've tried them?

Second question is if I understand it properly the procedure is first set the disk to a DVD-ROM booktype and then burn?

But if you set the booktype to DVD-Rom why doesn't that cause the burning application to say no way, I can't burn a DVD-ROM?

Hopefully these are not stupid questions.

    Cheers

if you're going to use DVD+R media then set the disk to booktype to DVD-ROM and then burn.

    Boy, what a stupid question!!!

    I'm kidding.

You are telling it to read it as a DVD-ROM, although it was burnt as a DVD+R/RW.

All DVD players are required to read, and play, the DVD-ROM format, and they just check one bit to determine what the format is. If that bit is set to DVD-ROM, MOST machines will read it. It tells the player what strategy it must use to tead it.

It works. My g'daughter's PSII will not read anything but a + bitset to ROM. My daughter's Samsung, also will not read any of my backups unless burnt as ROM. Makes it tough for me to take a bunch of DVD backups to babysit the g'son, unless I make them ROMs.

    Cheers,

    George

Actually, its more than one bit, but the the rest of the explanation is right.

    CC,

I thought it was more than just ONE bit, also, but setting ONE BIT just seems so much more explicable than 27 varied bits, or whatever.

    Regardless, it does generally work.

  6. Thanks all, That explanation makes it clearer. Logic said to me that if I mark it as a DVD-ROM then the burning s/w will choke. But it appears they are different settings, On for reading and a separate area for write strategy and such.

    Cheers
