This pic is taken from the MVW help files.

To Export a movie, click the Red button in the lower right hand corner or click the Export button in the Toolbar. Note: if the video files you are combining have different specs, some (or all) will have to be re-encoded.

the video files have the same specs - the save button you give me seems to save the project but it doesn't make a new mpeg file.

Check my edited post above. This should help. Also, the the Help files with MVW are quite good.

thanks for your help but i don't think it's exactly what iw as after - the video specs are exactly the same, taken off the same disc. i put them together, add a couple of fades and adjust the brightness in them and when i click the export button the only option i find it to re encode - obviously i want to avoid this if possible.

    thanks again for your help.

As you have added transitions, those portions (and those portions only) will have to be re-encoded. The bulk of your movie will not be re-encoded. Depending upon the bit rate, you may notice a slight decrease in quality during the transitions.

ah ok, i understand - since i adjusted to brightness of the clips does that mean the whole thing has to be re encoded?

thanks for all your help - much appreciated.

Gee, do I feel silly. As I hadn't tried that before, I quickly setup a test and found that it does have to re-encode after adding the filter. Duh!!!!! The portions you have touched shouldn't re-encode. And that makes perfect sense after all, the video is being tweaked.
