Quick question, I was wondering if anybody knows for sure what the write strategy is on the DVR-109 from Pioneer. The 108 uses ZCLV or Zone Constant Linear Velocity. I was reading on Pioneer's site and they say the 109 is CAV but it does not say whether or not it is pure CAV. Anybody know for sure? i am just curious if this drive will actually burn an entire disc at 16x or if it still "shifts gears."

I appreciate the link but it says the same thing the others do CAV I am wondering if this is PURE CAV or if this is another variant.

It depends on media. Some yes, some no.

You can also try this link:

    http://www.dvd-recordable.org/Reviews+index-req-showcontent-id-133.phtml

Lists the differences between the 108 and the 109. Write strategies are a little more clearly laid out in the chart.

I have a 109, firmware 1.40. What media burns CAV? TYG02: no, RITEKG05: no. Both shift 6-8X at 10% and 8-12X at 50%. Double layer burns CLV. I've been thinking CAV was a vapor spec.
