(I tried the search button, found nothing)
I bought an MP3 player in the summer. I put some of my favorite songs on it, and haven't changed them at ALL. Then recently my girlfriend wanted to use it (Since I was taking a couple weeks off work) So I went looking through her CD's and mine too for the songs she wanted...and I couldn't find my Blink182 CD.
The thing is if I still have the MP3 on the player, I don't want to erase the Blink182 song...at the same time, since I don't have the CD (It's lost somewhere in the apartment along with the with my prono collection in my apartment, or I REALLY lost it in a move we had recently) would it be ILLEGAL for me to have it on my player. I have no proof of purchase...
I'm not really worried, but just wondering where I stand legally!!

Personally, I'd say to just make yourself a new copy from the player. You had the original, it has become lost and you are now falling to your backup copy. Sorted.

I concur.

Hello,
Simple - edit out your post and do it anyway - nobody will know- but yeah you had your "OFFICIAL" copy so it should be legit.....

I see your location says Japan. If so then you'd have to find someone familar with Japanese law, which might not be so easy on this board.
In the US, the law that allows you to copy music does not authorize this just for making backups, but for personal copying in general. I don't see anything illegal about keeping an mp3 you encoded from your own cd, even if you lose that cd. However, if you were sued for infringement, it would be pretty difficult to prove that you didn't, download it via P2P for example. -
Maybe this is just the seven shots of fire water talkin' but.... who the **** cares? Are you paranoid that the police are going to kick down your door?

Now it's on record.
