  1. I was using the trend micro online scanner and it said that it found a trojan called, TROJ_PLAYX.A, what is this thing I have looked everywhere and nobody has info on it, I went to Mcafee, symantec, and of course trend.
I would be very thankful for anyhelp because I have never had a virus before and cant figure out how I got this one, although its gone now.

  2. A lot of viruses are known as different names especially ones that arent widespread. Without knowing exactly what type of virus it is and how it operates it is hard to know where you got it from however the best bet is from downloading a file from the internet that had the virus piggy backing on it. The best way to protect yourself against viruses is to buy a good anti-virus program like McAfee or Norton and to have the latest updates.

  3. All i was told by housecall was it was called Troj_PlayX.A
it was in the memory because it was caught while it was scanning memory. It seems that after doing research that it is a generic trojan being that there are no specific warning out for it.
But I still dont know how I got it, I sont get email attachments, I dont download software from unknown sources, and ones I do I let my virusscanner look at first before they are executed or unzipped, the same with any files I get from Morpheus.
Whats funny is that this happened on my first day back online after the Excite@home problem, and the only things I had installed on that day was the ATT configurator, and XSETUP. Both of which pasted the virus test.
Funny little welcome back gift from the internet isnt it, "You've Got a Trojan"

  4. It may have been from a disc or cd or your virus definitions might not have been up to date enough to catch it. Also your virus scanner might have been accidently shut off somehow and missed it.
