  1. I am stumped. I'm trying to backup my copy of Patch Adams. Have tried DVD Shrink 3.2 and DVDDecrypter 3.5.2.

It fails in the same place every time - exactly halfway through. It's a dual layer disc, and I have tried my best to research how to get my backup done on this site, to no avail.

    I'm using a P4, NEC-1100A DVD.

The message I get is "I/O Error" then

    Device: my DVD

    SCSIStatus: 0x02
    Interpretation: Check Condition.

    CDB: 2 00 00 1F 04 00 00 01 00
    Interpretation: Read (10) - Sector: 2032848

    Sense Area: bunch of data
    Interpretation: No Seek Complete

    Can anyone help me?

I have never had DVDDecrytper fail!

    Thanks in advance.

Nothing secret about Patch Adams. Is your disk scratched? Try reading/ripping from a different drive? Rule out the media first, then the hardware, and then the software.

  3. I've now tried everything I can. Disk is fine, plays in DVD player fine.

Have downloaded firmware updates for DVD burner (NEC ND-1100A).

BUT a big clue is that the DVD won't play on my PC after halfway, which is the same point where DVDDecrypter is stopping.

I have tried to find out if my burner is capable of reading dual-layer discs, but can't find an answer. I KNOW that I've backed up dual-layer discs before, but Patch Adams is the first that I've had problems with ever.

It's a gold disk, I guess DVD-9, but any more clues on why just this DVD?

    Thanks

Sure sounds like a scratch. Turn of error retry in decrypter and wait. You could try smart ripper, but it usually can't read anything that fails in decrypter, but sometimes it can.

This is almost certainly just another dirty disc / scratched disc / smudged disc. MOST I/O errors are (once you have all hardware set up properly).

Clean it. Do some searching / reading on the best ways to do this.

The fact that the disc will PLAY fine on a player is almost meaningless. Especially if it is a different player (they all have different tolerances on what they will handle, and what they will choke on).
