  1. The DVDs that I burn will play on all of my standalone DVD players(Panasonic, RCA, Memorex) but will not play on my portable RCA or PS2. How can I author my DVDs to play everywhere? Do I need a certain type of DVDR? Do I need a certain authoring program? A certain burning program? Right now I am using TMPGAuthor and Nero 6.3 to burn. The disks I am using are just standard Memorex DVD+R. Please tell me what I am doing wrong.

I know it can be done because I have purchased DVDs that will play in PS2 and Xbox from the local bootleg place. But the disks are white on top and I can't see what type they are. It's driving me nuts trying to figure it out.

There's no such thing as universal compatibility when it comes to burned discs on a standalone. Every player is different in the way it handles media. The only guarantee that a disc will play everywhere (and there will still be players that could reject it) is to use high-quality authoring software with strict controls, and have the discs pressed from a glass master.

You can't. Commercial DVDs are made with a completely different process than +/- R/RW.

Use scenarist. Get a professional authoring firm to author the disk. Have it pressed.

Your local bootleg place may be importing pressed bootlegs.

As the others have said, you can't. But heres one thing you can try to see if it helps. So far you have beeen using +r disks. Try some -r disks, you might find these play in those players that don't play your current +r's. I know the Ps2 supported -r before it supported +r for instance.

Try bitsetting your +Rs to look like DVD-Rom.

  8. Read "What is DVD" (link top left on this page), and make your mpegs and dvds completely compliant with the spec.

I Have an older ps2 and it plays all my dvd's fine, I use +, -, & plus booktype set to "rom" for movies & games.
And all of mine are also authored with TMPGEnc DVD Author & burnt with either that or nero, mostly nero.

And you say they are white on top, what color are they on the bottom ?
& try DvdInfo to see what brand they are if they are not pressed (silver on the bottom)

  10. I just burned a DVD+R MAXWELL using TMPGenc DVD Auth and it wont play on my Toshiba SD-2800 Home DVD player.

What can I do to make it work in a Home DVD player?

Try using DVD-R since older dvd players and ps2 can handle them better than DVD+R media.

Over to your left is a button marked DVD Players. Click on it, enter your player and click search. A quick look at yours shows it doesn't play +R format disks for about half the people. Going down the media list, only Ricoh and verbatim manufactured +R or +RW seem to work. Other manufacturers dont seem to make playable media for this player. I'd suggest sticking with -R for the moment.

  14. Thank you to everyone who took the time to answer my post. You've been very helpful!

It sounds to me like -R is the way to go. Going to try that and see how it goes. I will let you know the results.

  15. I think the main problem is because you are using shitty media. Memorex is one of the worst media out there. Just because it say Memorex doesn't mean crap. Get yourself some Taiyoyuden or Ritek. The might even be chepaer then the Memorex you bought on the shelf. Ritek G04 4X-R goes about $.32 with free shipping on most places.

Memorex -R and +RW works 100 times out of 100 on my system - YMMV...

  17. crashnburn, Memorex uses all kinds of media, most of it is good media though. You suggest he uses TY or Ritek G04 - Memorex has used TY and Ritek G04 for their discs. They use alot of Prodisc, CMC, RICOHJPNR01 (which are some of the best discs around), and Ritek.

I've had no issues with Memorex, and all of the above discs burn well on my burners.

  18. Ok, I went and purchased the Imation DVD-R and burned my DVD. All is good.

Although, I used TMPGenc DVD author and I have 1 main title and 4 tracks.

The main menu plays the background music but when I select a track to play, only the image is shown not the music.... ?!? That's when I play it in my Home DD Toshiba SD-2800.

When I play it on my Laptop DVD, it works fine....

    What can cause this?
