    Hi hi,
i am a newbie to this forum and video stuff. I read the "what is" information but i do not understand is the disc format for editable dvds on DVD-R....DVD-VFR (video mode)?? does that mean allowing to create menus (as in before the how start the graphic menu and you click to select which episode you want??) but not to create chapter menus or playlists ( meaning creating chapters???) I really do not understand cos i am right now using TDK DVD-R , software Nerovision 4 , i selected editable dvds but i am not allowed to create the grapic menu but allow to create chapters for each episode instead...really confused~~
And the editable dvd that i just created seems not to be able to play on most dvd players....am i right? I cannot play on my dvd player.
Hope you guys can help me out....would really appreciate. Thanks.

NeroVision 4 - completely wrong software.

My process is something like this.

    1. Record to the HDD of my Pioneer 540H, usually using a custom mode of 95 minutes per disc. This allows two programs per disc one ads are removed.

    2. Basic top and tail on the DVDR, then burn the rest in video mode to DVD-RW. I never use VRO mode, and I never re-encode.

    3. Copy contents of DVD-RW to my PC HDD.

    4. Repeat steps 1 - 3 if there are multiple programs.

    5. Edit out commercials etc with Womble Mpeg Wizard.

    6. Author with DVD Lab Pro and burn with Imgburn

I would suggest you look at either VideoRedo or Womble Mpeg Wizard to edit the contents if necessary, and something like GUIForDVDAuthor or Tmpgenc DVD Author for creating your menus. Burn with Imgburn when you have play tested them from your HDD.

I get basic, generic menus when I finalise the disc on my recorder, but they are ignored, along with it's automatic chapter points, when I copy what I need to my HDD. VOB2MPG is worth having as well. It can just strip out the mpeg files from the DVD-RW and save you the hassle later.

And one final, fundamental point - there is no such thing as 100% compatibility with burned media, but you will get the best chance if you use high quality media, and not the corner store crap.
