I believe he is pointing you to the 'convert' selection in the 'How To' area.

    Bingo.

Slow down. Read the Converting section. If you don't find what you need, then start in the All Guides section. And use forum search.

You agreed to do basic research before posting when you joined. It sounds to me like you are too impatient to do any work on your own. That won't help you get an answer here

It sounds corny, but "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach him how to fish and he eats for life" True statement.

If Someone gives you the link, you'll never learn how to find your answers. The next time you need something, you'll just post again asking for help. And some kind soul will help you ...and he'll do the searching you should be doing.

Read the guides .....do a forum search. You'll find what you need, and you'll also find other stuff for future reference when you need it

There is a very easy method to change a xxx.VOB file to a xxx.mpg file without even a software.

Simply rename the .VOB to .mpg and that was it.
Do not forget that somehow VOBs are MPGs too.

You have forgot to mention why you want to make your files in mpg??
If you tell us why then maybe we can help you more....

well mainly i want the AUDIO of the file...in moviemaker, you can import certain files, VOB is not one of it, so i wanted to get the audio software
but also in the future i want to be able to convert a dvd to a smaller sized file

i got VIRTUALDUBMOD, but the output of the file is like 7 gegs, and thats nuts
cant the output file be smaller?

Let as make a start from the audio....

The easiest method is to separate video from audio, and for that you will need a prog called VobEdit.exe and I think that is very easy to find.
    (Here------> http://www.ifoedit.com/ )

When you first start the program you will see a Button in the down left corner that says 'Open'...
Press it once and drive into your folder where your VOBs are.

1....Usually it is enough to open the first VOB only (for example the VTS_01_1.VOB) Double click on it and then......

2....Press the third button the one that says 'Demux'. Once you press this button a new window pops up. In this new window I want from you to make two "hacks":
One in the blank square of the "Demux all Video streams" and one in the sqare of the "Demux all audio streams". And now,

3....Press OK, and a "Save As" pop up will come into play.
Just choose a proper name for your files, press save and you are done !!!

After 5-10 minutes (depending how big is your file and how fast is your CPU ) you will have 2 new files: a .m2v file for your video and a .ac3 file(hopefully) for your audio.

I hope I said enouph for your first steps.
