it is a LG dvdburner with nero software
it worked fine but after i installed a new maxtor harddisk it has not worked
i have tried to run the nero software again -
Hello,
Upgrade your firmware and buy better blank discs
KevinDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I think it has something to do with the jumpers
maybe there is a conflick ?
cos it has worked before i installed the harddisk -
The lens may need cleaning, or there is a possibility that the laser is shot.

If your not using Nero with the Express interface. look at the top left hand corner of the window. There should be a scroll down menu under the icons, you should see CD in the white box. Just click on the arrow, scroll down and select DVD.

Either that or fitting the hard drive is just a coincidence and the DVD laser has died (they have 2, one for DVD burning and another for CD burning). -
Since you have Nero, you should have the Nero Toolkit. Run Nero Info Tool. It will give you quite a bit of information about your drive setup. You may see the problem or at least your drives configuration.

I would say its a motherboard problem,i put 2 dvd writers on the second channel and the liteon doesnt burn dvd+/-r anymore, just cdr and dvdrw.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
i have a liteon and a optorite on the same channel (2) and they work fine
sounds like a drive issue and not the mobo as it would work as a cdr if the mobo was shot -
someone said it has to do with the jumpers
Prima. Master : maxtor 80 GB (harddisk 1)
Prima. Slave : maxtor 40 GB (harddisk 2)
Secnd. Master : Liteon DVDdrev
Secnd. Slace : LG DVD brænder.
this should be the right way
but someone said that i could put all on cable
then they would work it out themself ??? -
Looks fine to me. Personally I would maker the writer the Master on the secondary channel but if it was working OK leave it as it is. Don't use Cable Select, it often causes drives to unselect DMA and revert to PIO mode.
You could always take out the extra drive and return the system back to as it was and see if DVD burning works again, although I still think you have CD mode selected in Nero or the DVD laser has dies. -
mine is not sat up like I wrote but like this:
primary master: hard disk
p slave : cdrom
sec master: cdrom
s slave: ide harddisk
master nikimi
slave dvdrom
master dvdrom
slave maxtor
maybe thats why it doesnt work
of course i have choosen the right thing in nero (dvd)
so I shall not put all in cable select ??? -
If you can burn CD-r 's not likely to be laser.
If you used to be able to burn DVD's could well be cable or set up.
When i added my DVD burner to my PC, i had to fiddle with their order a bit to get all for all drives to work.
if i remember correctly, it wouldnt accept my burner as my slave on either cable.
my setup has 2 HD's on one cable and DVD-ROM & DVD Burner on other cable with burner as master. -
I havent listed them in my computer bios
can I fix it there ???
without changing the jumpers ? -

To correct your setup, you will have to change the jumpers and cables. Set the jumper on your boot drive (C
as Master and on the other hard drive as Slave. Connect them to the Primary IDE port on one ribbon cable. Set the jumper on your DVD burner to Master and on your CD-ROM drive to Slave. Connect them to the Secondary IDE port with the other ribbon cable. Hard drives should be using an 80 way ribbon cable although the CD/DVD drives can use either 40 or 80 way.
In the BIOS set all to AUTO. In Windows, make sure DMA is enabled on all drives. Do this by going into Device Manager, select IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, select Primary IDE Channel, Properties, Advanced Settings and make sure both are set for DMA if Available. Then do the same in the Secondary IDE Channel. Hard drives should be running at Ultra DMA Mode 4 or 5 and CD/DVD drives should be at Ultra DMA Mode 2 (or higher). -

Both boxes on both IDE channels state 'DMA if available'.
But could nto see anywhere to set or even check if my hard drives were at Ultra DMA mode 4 or 5. There were no numbers - all four boxes just stated 'Ultra DMA mode'
Have i done something wrong?
or more accurately can i set them up bettter?
thx -
Sorry zworg2, you profile shows you as running Win2000, I assumed Win XP. It may well be different in 2k but in XP, underneath the 'DMA if Available' box, is another that shows current transfer mode. In there it shows what exact mode you are running in.
