If this has been covered, I apologize. I never have problems with audio synch when capturing with my ATI AIW or ADS Instant DVD but I've just tried to capture a tape (very old and poor quality) that is out of synch on both devices. Can it be the tape? TV caps come out fine too.
Thanks

It's a combination of a bad tape with a not up to the task VCR.. SVHS with a TBC built in is a good start. A dedicated TBC is the best choice.. www.lordsmurf.com has good recommendations on what to get. My recommendation is a JVC DVHS deck that supports SVHS with a built in TBC.

useing ads idvd-2, do not use "split-stream" as this disables the audio/video lock of capture.
just did a cap of vhs very old (mid 80's, in slp mode) tape was a complieation of xxx movies that I have not been able to find again, did the cap of each movie at 6mb/s vbr in capwiz. During the cap the vcr play stuttered, scrambled, etc ant that is what idvd captured, but the dvd is in sync at end. Very poor qualit vid, but expected that given the source. DID NOT EDIT IN ANY WAY, which seems to introduce some sync problems depending on s/w used to edit/author/burn. I just captured with capwiz, imported to MF-2, no menu but with auto chapters -
Also, try fast-forwarding and rewinding the tape a few times in the VCR you are using, to get the tape adjusted to the machine's tension. Many times for me this has improved tracking and helped remedy stutter and slide when I've played old tapes.
(I've been told that storing VHS tapes on their edges instead of flat, especially 'for any length of time', helps prevent a lot of lossy stuff. But probably I was the only one who didn't know that...)[/quote] -

Oh well, not a big deal, since I just got a datavidio TBC-1000. Maybe I should have been using MF-2 all along to author a DVD, then use the DVD as my source to cut out unwanted parts and stuff. Oh well....
