Ok so I didnt look or check.
Apparently my Fujitsu Siemens PC does not acknowledge or even SEE DVD-R disks - only DVD+R's
Fair enough
However - is that just a setting I need to fiddle with or is it a constraint of the PC/DVD writer drive?
No big deal - I'll use +R's in future.

Your writer may or may not write to DVD-R, but it should be able to read them. What brand/model writer do you have?

Thanks for the responses:
I used the Nero Info Tool to tell me:
It's a NEC DVD+RW ND1100-A
The box is checked for "supported write features" CD-R and CD-RW
but not for DVD_R or DVD-RW
That told me then!
I havent tried READING a DVD-R yet
As I say, no problem as I will just use DVD+R to write to.
Some Drives do, some drives don't I suppose!when I were a lad we didn't have all this new-fangled stuff
