    Hi,

I know this isnt really the right site, but i am unsure wherelse to look, and this site has always been very helpful and informative with my questions regarding video etc

    I have a pile of CD's (my wife's actually)
She plays them a lot, and i would like to be able to strip the tracks she most likes out and burn onto a data DVD for backup purposes.

My problem is that many of the CD's only have shortcuts (CDA's) visible to windows or DOS.

Does anyone know of an app or utility that is available (preferably free) that can actually strip the tracks and not the shortcuts out of the cd's.

    thanks in advance

There are many CD audio rippers out there. One of my favorites is Exact Audio Copy. See:-

  3. That's very simple to do!
You just have to rip the tracks you want to .mp3 from the different cd's you have and then burn the mp3's in a DVD.

For ripping cd's you don't need to go any further, if you have windows media player 10 you can do that with it!If you don't just download it from microsoft.com!

If the idea is archival of the CD tracks, I would save them as WAV files, rather than compressing to MP3 (or any other compression format.)

Agreed. Backing up as .WAV files will be much better since its the exact copy of the original with no quality loss, as compared to MP3. You could try MusicMatch Jukebox, they have a pretty good ripper for CD's as well.

    thank you all

i am happy with the small degragation that may derive from compressing to mp3 format (and this means i can get MANY more on a DVD and can use them straight from dvd to mp3 player if necessary)

i have found exact audio copy and it seems nice easy and simple (v necessary for me when the whole job is gonna take ages)

    thanks all
