Done the search, got some good leads.. however here's my issue:

I am trying to convert WMV files to DVD compatible MPGs using WinAVI. The process works fine - I get the MPG that is accepted by the TMPGEnc DVD Author. One glitch though is that after about 15-20 minutes of run time the audio starts to go out of synch.

After reading some threads, I think the problem might be bad frames in between (? confirm ??)

At this point I would like to know if there is a guide demonstrating the "Best Practices to convert WMV to DVD"

I also noticed that when I load 2 DVD volumes in DVD Shrink to make them a single DVD, there is no audio in the resulting DVD.

  3. All I could suggest, is don't use WinAVI.
Rip video and audio from the .wmv to elementary streams, then author. Tools and guides are available.

    Freebie solution?

Have you tried loading the WMV into Windows Movie Maker 2 and saving as a DV-AVI? See if DVD-Author has a problem with the uncompressed version of the video.

I use TMCEnc Plus and haven't had a problem converting WMV files. maybe people haven't responded because they don't usually have that problem either.

Last night I tried TMPGEnc Plus. I changed the VFAPI priority and it was able to open the WMV - no problem and created a M2V and a WAV file.

When I tried loading the resulting M2V file in VirtualDub, gives me an error: "no video frames,,,,"

VirtualDub also game me this error when I tried to open the MPEG file created after converting the WMV using WinAVI. I did install WMV9VCM as suggested in this thread: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=252148

I am gonna have to check if the M2V is missing frames?

Yes, 100%. My problem really is the audio synch. When I play the original WMV, everything is fine.. however after conversion to either MPG or DVD (vob)... the audio is out of sunch.
