Hi I own the 5120D by LG and everything I put at it, it likes.

    The media tested:

    TY 8X dvd+r (from Rima)
    Prodisc 4x dvd-r (from Supermedia)
    Optodisc 4x dvd+r (from Supermeia)
Memorex 4x dvd+r (from Compusa which are Prodisc03 media)
Also own Memorex 8x dvd-r from Wal-Mart that are Ritek G05's which burn great, but only at 4x.

I think on all 8x dvd-r media on our model LGs it will burn only at 4x speeds, but dvd+r's it will due up to 12X. I perfer you stick w/ the dvd+r medias.

  6. Every Hypermedia(yeh I know - cheap) it rejected, but burnt fine on a lite-on!
Also memorex didn;t like the lg's.
The discount "named" brands +R's are good from tiger direct, Philips/HP but lg 4160 doesn't do Book types.

Don't use Ritek with this drive, stick with media id: MXL; TY or RICOHJPN

  9. Actually, the thread you cite winds up exonerating Riteks; the OP had made a mistake with cache allocation and had assumed the resulting bad burns were the media's fault. Upon fixing his system the Riteks performed flawlessly.
