  1. I've managed to dl a recorded ReplayTV program to my PC using DVArchive. What I've got on hd now is 4.75Gb "xxx.mpg" file. I've searched and read that the file's audio/video will be out of sync and that reVue or MPEG-VCR s/b used to correct.. (btw, what exactly is a ".mpg" file?--it doesn't seem to be a compliant mpeg2 file??).

But I was wondering if there are other apps that c/b used to do this, i.e., correct audio/video sync and output DVD-compliant files. I currently already have apps like TMPGEnc Plus, Virtualdub, etc.. I'd rather not spend add'l $$ if any of my existing apps would work just as well..

Once I get the files corrected and into DVD-compliant files, I may have to re-encode/transcode with a one-click app or DVD-RB to reduce size to 4.37Gb to burn.

  2. Hey there....

I've been using DVarchive with my replay for about a year now. I'll give you my experiences...
I've noticed that I only have any type of errors when I've recorded in High quality mode. When I've recorded in Medium mode, (Which I have set to default on my replay) I've yet to experience any type of sync issues.
I currently use Womble MPG VCR to edit out commercials (When what I've recorded has commercials), and it's always been dvd compliant.
I can't speak for reVue, never used it, but here are my steps...

    1. Download from replay to computer
    2. Edit (If needed) with Womble. (Files are already compliant before Womble)
    3. Create DVD compliant files (From the resulting MPG) with Ulead MF2/3, DVDLab, or DVD Author.
    4. Burn

I've done this countless times without error. If there's been an error, it's because of something I've screwed up, not from the MPG file.

Let me know what I can help ya with...

also, I visit two forums for the replay to browse and keep up on stuff.

  3. Forgot one thing....

When I do a dvd that is larger than allowed, I just run it through DVD2One or DVDshrink.

    Then Burn

  4. Thanks, brs.. Well, I went ahead and dl'd Womble's trial fully functional mpeg-vcr. Unfortunately, after authoring with IFOedit and burning, the DVD would not play on my Sony DVD set-top player (but did play on my pc). here's what I did:

Once mpeg-vcr yielded edited mpg file (commecials cut, nothing else done), I demuxed the mpg with TMPGEnc Plus into m2v and mp2 files.. then used IFOedit to author into what I hoped to be DVD-compliant files.. but no go.. My Sony DVD player would not play it.. Any idea where I went wrong?

Before I left the house this a.m. I dl'd DVDAuthorGUI and authored.. will burn tonight with hopefully good results.. Thanks.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I recorded program on high quality mode in RTV.. I've read on several searches to record on medium quality, like you say.. Do you think that's the problem?

  5. Could very well be. I've heard that the high quality mpg's have a bitrate that exceeds standards. That's one of the reasons that I don't use high settings.

Also, I don't demux before I author it, never found the need to. I just use MF2,DVD Lab, or Dvd Author.

Let me know how it goes....

    Thanks
