  2. Your post is a little confusing...

    xvid to svcd virtualdub conversion
...implies that you want to go from XVID (which is an MPEG4 codec, meaning an AVI file) to SVCD (which uses the MPEG2 codec, meaning a MPG file) using VirtualDub (which cannot itself directly encode to MPEG2 or MPEG1 - it cannot output MPG files at all).

    Furthermore, 3500kbps would be too high a bitrate for an SVCD-compliant MPEG2 file ( max 2600 kbit/sec MPEG-2 (Audio + Video bitrate max bitrate is 2778 kbit/s).)

So - what exactly is your source? (Post a screengrab of gSpot if it's an AVI, but obfuscate the filename if it's something you shouldn't really have)...

...and what format are you trying to get to?

A 3500kbps MPEG2 would be into DVD territory. Where did you get 3500kbs from exactly?

If you want to go to MPEG2, you'll need an MPEG2 encoder (as I say, VirtualDub can't do this by itself) - there are two free options that I know of, QuEnc and bbMPEG - the most popular choices though are probably TMPGEnc Plus, Cinema Craft Encoder (CCE), MainConcept and Procoder, none of which are free.

    cheers,
    theDruid.
