  1. I have a Hitachi rear projection 43 inch tv, and I am trying to hook a s-video up to my Dishnet, when I hook it in to the video input on the back of the tv its only showing up in black and white, why would that be happening? I have all the connections in the right color placements I think, white, red and s-video...thanks... Dee..

Not sure why, but you could try a different cable and see if that helps.

Exactly. The B&W part of the signal is carried through a seperate wire from the color part. Most likely it's a bad cable.

Also dont forget that your TV needs to be set to the correct AV INPUT mode to get a colour picture from S-Video (the S-Video input 'chanel' is also sometimes called Y/C) which is sometimes only available by pressing the INPUT select button on your remote a few times...you may well be simply on the correct AV chanel but the wrong mode...so keep pressing the AV select button.........

.... a mate of mine had the same problem until I told him that you need to keep pressing the AV input button on the remote...........which he duly did.......and then he got colour...........and a RED face........

Be sure s-video is all the way through from start to end. Don't switch carrier type in the middle.

SVideo comes out balck and white if the still have a Composite video cable (the yellow one usually) connected to the say video input.

I you have a composite video cable connected this is the problem.

Or it is just a bad Svideo cable.

If the compostie video cable is connected even if it have no signal traveling through it, then the Picture from the Svideo will be in bbalkc and white.

Do you have an Svideo and Composite video that are both on the same AV channell?
