    hi there, computer crashed the other day so i had to do a full restore , now when i play videos in vista media centre i get these black blotches on the white parts of the picture, ive tried fiddling with the codecs with no avail....any ideas?

    Have you tried other software players to see if they exhibit the same problem? I would try VLC as it uses it's own codecs. If you still see the 'blotches', you might check your video card settings. I would also see if there is a newer driver for your video card.

    What format is the video you are having problems with? Or is it all formats?

  3. Open a video in two players at the same time. If one has the problem and the other is normal you have a video overlay problem. Go to the graphics card's setup applet and check the overlay settings, sometimes just called "video" settings.

    hi sorry about my vagueness last night, its AVI's imj trying to play, and the blotches dont come up when using VLC or MPC, im going to try updasting my graphics card drivers and see if that helps, ill also look at some of your previous suggestions
