I just got a cheap DVD+RW recorder at the weekend to convert my old VHS collection to DVD, but I want to store them on DVD-R. Is there an easy way for me to transfer the data on the +RW to the -R? I just haven't had the chance to try doing anything on my PC yet, but if there is an easy way to do it, it would save reinventing the wheel. I have tried the search facility but can't seem to find anything. Even tried Google with no result.

They have the same capacity, just do a straight DVD copy. I don't see why that wouldn't work.

    Hello,

Ditto to what garrisonkw said. Just do a normal disc copy. Or if you want since its single layer use dvd decrypter and do iso read/write to make and burn an iso copy of it. Then delete the iso off the harddrive. THOUGH a on the fly copy will work if you have two dvd drives (though not always recommend from what I understand).

I rip it with DVD Decrypter, then place a DVD-R disc in my burner and burn it back with TempGenc DVD Author. Simple.

Interesting approach but do you really thinks it's that simple?

    Hello,

Yeah iso read/write in dvd decrypter itself is a LOT easier (for single layer backups of course )

That mean you wanna use DVD Decrypter and TMPGEnc DVD Author for a dual layer backup?

No. If it's dual layer media you can iso read/write and burn a 1:1 with just dvd decrypter.

For transcoding a dvd9 to dvd5 I use dvdshrink and burn with roxio

  9. All right then, first I thought Jedi Masters could do dual layer backups with that authoring program alone.

  11. canon10d; If you have TMPGEnc DVD Author you don't need to use other programs. You can use TDA to copy your DVD+RW to your harddrive, edit, create chapters, author and burn. The newest version of TMPGEnc DVD Author can do Dual Layer.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will print this topic off and go through them.

Since posting yesterday, I decided to copy a VHS tape using the LP mode (3hrs/disk) whilst I was out in the evening. When I got back around midnight I did a very quick check of the disk in my PC using explorer and it shows up three folders. In the VIDEO_TS folder there were a number of files totalling over 7GB! How can this be? It is a 4.7GB disk!
