  1. I'm not quite sure what my problem is but here goes.

I downloaded ffmpeg a few days ago and I've had quite good results. Thanks Major. But this one burn has me burning. I started with an avi file, encoded it using ffmpeg preset and got an mpeg file and a TS folder. Previously I've just burnt the DVD using Toast 6 / data / DVD-ROM (UDF) and got a playable DVD. This time the DVD won't play. At first I thought that it might be a disc problem, so I tried again. Same result. So I thought that it might be a PAL / NTSC problem, my standalone (SONY S360 / DVD / VCD) won't play PAL. So I tried it on my ibook DVD player but it still wouldn't play. So I started from scratch, same result. I'm stuck, anyone have any ideas?

Both the avi file and the vob files play with VLC with good results and no sync issues.

    The original file is 690mb DivX.avi. The info is : Video : [05XD] 720X416 32bpp 25.000 fps 1051.6 kbps (128 kbyte/s) audiocodec: framecopy (format=55 chns=2rate=4800 bits=0 bps=11999 sample-0)

The encoded file info reads : DivX Fr.avi.ff.mpg, Mpeg 2 program stream file [Video / Audio], Muxrate 10.08, Mbps Aspect ratio 4/3 TV, Not interlaced, chroma format: 4:2:0, Size {720 x 576 29.97 fps 9.00 Mbps, Audio Mpeg 1 layer 1, free bitrate 44100 Hz, Stereo, No emphasis.

NEWBIE ALERT : Now having said all of this I must admit that I don't understand most of what is going on but if you keep it simple I might be able to keep up. Please remember KIS for S, 'cause I'm Terminally challanged.

  2. Did the ffmpegX conversion process finish with a "Finished" message or with an error? Does the VIDEO_TS folder contain many files including IFO and BUP files, or does it contain only a VOB file?

  3. Thanks for the pronpt reply.

It finished, there was no error.

The Video file contains 3 vob files, 2 of 1.029mbs and one of 458mbs, nothing else.

Of course the Audio file was empty.

  4. The authoring seem incomplete. I suppose that you kept the MPG file created during the encoding. If yes, author it again as follows, 1. trash the VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS folders, 2. load the MPG file in the first browse.. field in the tools tab, 3. select "author as dvd" on the left, 4. make sure there are no special characters or spaces in the path or disk name, 5. click "author".

  5. Major.....you da man.

    Thanks
