  1. Ok, an idea came to me. How about Divx DVD? Like Have a DVD type menu but have the video compressed in divx. So you get the benifits of DVD menuism while not having to use a DVD to get the whole movie?

    I am soooo about to try to do this, but can it be done? has it been done before?

    you mean for playback in a standalone? no, it can't be done.

    as for menus and stuff for computer playback, the mp4 container already features that and mkv will soon.

    Can't be done with the current crop of players. There is nothing to stop you creating something like this as a data disk, with a menu and video files, but it would only be playable in a PC, not a stand alone player.

    There are also still quite a lot of Divx capable players that wont play from a DVD, only from a CD.
