  1. Hello people, im a n00b when it comes to DVD Writing. I got a DVD Writer for Christmas and i have been trying to burn DVDs but keep getting errors.

When i try with DVDsanta, it gets about 30% through and then ''KEY,ASC,ASCQ,ASCLEN=3,73,2,a'' ''Write Data Failed'' comes up and the Blank DVD disk ejects. Is there anyway of fixing this ? I'm trying to burn an ISO file and have read some guides, just doesn't seem to be helping

I used DVD Decypter to Rip the film from the DVD i bought and then used DVD Shrink to compress it.

Thanks if anyone can help, sorry about thelimited information i have gave, but as i said...im a n00b.

EDIT - I just tried to burn it with DVD Depcrypter and i got another Error -''I/O Error !'' Device [0:0:0] DVDRW USB 16x A079 (F(USB)

Seems to me that I would start with the writer itself.

    Does it read DVD ok?
Put a CDr in it and see if you can burn a music CD.

It seems that you have an external burner, via USB? Make sure you are USB 2.0 enabled.

Before upgrading the firmware, I would go to the manufacturer website and see if they have any FAQs, driver, or firmware upgrades about your particular burner.

I wouldn't necessarily jump right into a firmware upgrade, but if they have updated drivers I would go ahead and install them.

I would also have to inquire about what type of media you are using and is it speed rated for the speed at which you are burning.

I'm a little out of the current DVD burner loop but I don't think they sell a 16x DVD burner.

Also something else, are you sure the ISO file will fit on the blank DVD? 4.7 GB on DVD is not actually equal to 4.7 GB on your HD. Right click the ISO and go to properties and in parenthesis beside the file size...is it below 4.7 GB?

I would also try burning at the media's rated speed, either 4x or 8x.

You sure are out of the loop! :P

Many of the new burners are 16x and DL. Not that we expect you old people to keep pace with technology....

Now, just try to find 16x media.....

    I agree

I have a 16x DL burner, but DL blanks are scarce. Hell 16x blanks are scarce.

  6. Thanks for the help people. I will try and copy a music CD and see if it works and will report back.

    Edit -

@Tekkie & Gitreel - what you say sonny? I'm sorry I don't have my readin spectacles on...."DL" what does that mean?

Besides, I have a Pioneer 105 4x burner, which works great and has been working great, so when it goes out, I'll get back in the loop, until then, I just watch as you guys go around in circles

    Annnyway......

coldrcy - if it burns the CDs, it should burn the DVD. <yea, tech heads, I know it's different> but if it burns one it should burn the other.

I mis-spoke, I should not have said "USB 2.0 enabled". 2.0 is a faster type of USB. Depending on how old your PC is, you may not have 2.0. Which could be a problem if you are trying to burn at high rates of speed.

You can check to see if speed is the problem easy enough by trying to burn at 1x and see if it works.

I would also check to see if your ISO will fit size wise. Then use DVD Decrypter - Mode > ISO > write.

And as Bodyslide said, if you only have 4x media, then you should only burn it at 4x.

Something else that might be of some assistance is a program called DVDinfoPro, which you can find here at videohelp's tools section. If not, it's still a good program to have around.
