  1. I was looking to buy an Ati ALL-IN-WONDER 9600 XT, but I have a few questions first.

The official site says if I add a PCI ATI Tv-Tuner i can have picture-in-picture.
While I'm not really interested in that feature, I was wondering if it also allowed me to record 2 programs at the same time.

If not, I was wondering what the best setup would be for:
    1) Recording 2 cable tv (no pay channels) at the same time, editing them, and burning to DVD.
    2) Conversion of VCR tapes to DVD (and of course the ability to edit them).
    3) No Monthly Fees. -_-

If there is a set top box that can do the above available in the USA, I'm game.

I've been researching this for 2 days and have a very big headache.

Edit: The reason behind my setup is that I've been recording cartoons and other shows for my niece using 2 VCRs but would like the ability to:
    1) Edit out comercials.
    2) Edit out plot spoiler promos before and during comercials. -_-
    2) Edit out shows that do not appeal to my niece, such as The Cramp Twins and Mucha Lucha.
    3) Archive onto a long lasting, more reliable media.
    4) Organize Shows in chronological order onto their own disks.

    Probably not, no.

Get two captures cards/computers, or two DVD recorders.

    Yikes.

I could do the standard method:
    1) Get the 2-tuner DVR from Time Warner Cable. It doesn't have a DVD Burner, and it's only usable outputs look to be analouge.
    2) After recording with the above, put it into my PC using either an AGP Card, PCI Card, USB 2.0 Box or Firewire Box with s-video inputs.
    3) Edit and burn with my PC.

I have the 2 Tuner setup, and no like the Smurf said. Only record one at a time. The setup is neat to see running on a computer and out put to a TV, especially if you have PIP built into your TV for 3 channels. Useful only for sports events. Other than that, you like me over time will have a stable of computers that do it all. It's just a matter of pushing your chair from one puter to the next. You will quickly find out how much time, doing what you want to do will take. I have over 300GB of shows I have yet to get on DVD and devote about 6 hours a week to the task. Like any hobby you have to take breaks at times and do other things. VCR to computer has to be done in real time, no way to speed it up. Best to capture straight to computer and edit, produce from there.

Keep it simple. One PC, one capture at a time. If you want two captures at the same time, use two seperate PCs, the original source doesn't matter where it is from. I am thinking about multi sattelite boxes(one in four different rooms) and then pipeing them all to here. (like I need another hole in my head)
As for pushing my chair, I have an "L" shaped set-up and am thinking of going to a modified "V". Just turn my head or swivel the chair and I can see it all. The only problem is I dont have anywhere to do paper work!
IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT?

  8. Thank you for all of your comments and suggestions.

After reading them and doing more research, I've come up with an idea I'd like to run by you all:

    Hardware and Software Purchase Ideas:
    1) Sony DVD Burner DW-D22A-B2 (Supports Dual Layer).
    2) Canopus ADVC100.
    3) Ulead DVD Movie Factory 3.
    4) Rent a DVR from Time Warner Cable (Lets me record up to 2 programs at the same time).

Basicly, I record with item #4, then later play it back into item #2, using item #3 (to get it in my PC).
After it's captured into my pc, edit with item #3.
When finished, burn with item #3 and item #1.

Has anyone had any experience using a DVR from Time Warner Cable?

I feel like I'm missing something...

Another approach that may work is Beyond TV for controlling and recording multiple tuners.
    http://www.snapstream.com/Products/beyondtv/default.asp

I see that all AIW Radeon cards are supported.
Could record 2 analog cable or 1 analog 1 digital or 2 digital (with 2 cable boxes).
