it depends on the properties of the source audio i.e. dolby digital downmix is absolutely wrong for dd 2.0

wow downsampling 48 -> 44.1 KHz with Utrahigh, That takes tooooooo longgggg. You might as well go with Mid or High instead. I sitll can't tell a different between High and UtraHigh. LIke stanwebber said sometime I don't do downsampling with DVD2avi just let TMPGenc and Toolame work their way.

I agree with ya_jai that there is not *the* best audio setting.
Generally I don't use DVD2AVI's downsampling because it's so slow. Instead I use ssrc.exe as an external tool in TMPGEnc, which handles 48>44.1kHz conversion just as well in my opinion.
As far as "Dynamic Range Control" is concerned: I prefer maintaining the original dynamic variations of the original soundtrack, which is why I turn it off completely.
I agree with you that it's best to apply normalization in order to raise the overall volume of the sound. In addition to this I always let "Pre scale decision" run through the file, as its my understanding that doing this will automatically find the loudest signal so that DVD2AVI knows by how much to amplify the original signal. -
I agree with using SSRC, Though I do all my audio using the azid/lame GUI (a frontend for tooLame, SSRC and WaveBooster). Thus I leave the dynamic range as normal and boost the wav to get the volume maxed without distortion. Only takes about 15 minutes to do all the steps (with 2pass encoding) on my P3 750. The result just gets muxed into the video.
