  1. As stated, whenever I try and use an .avi format (irregardless of codec) it always uses some random wierd default audio format- varies depending on the codec I'm trying to use but almost always listed as something strange. For instance, what I'm trying to work in is the x264 codec, so I- File->render as Save As Type->Video for Windows (.avi) Template->Custom (set my video settings; x264vfw) Audio Tab->(all the fields start off blank-white) Audio Format->Lame mp3 (44,100, 320kbs, cbr, stereo) When I click "ok" the description of this new template lists "audio: 40,000 Hz, Mono, 0x0". If I go back into the template and the audio tab, again all the fields are blank-white. This happens with every codec I try and use in .avi format, although the "random defaults" numbers changes, the fact that I can't set my own audio settings (or, they don't "stick" anyway) holds true. Any ideas? I'm running WinXP Pro SP3, Vegas 9.0, I have K-lite codec mega pack with option 7 (everything+player).

    I'll bet there's your problem.

My various installs of Vegas have never had that problem, but I don't add All-in-One codec packs. They're well known to wreak havoc with systems.
Start clean. Install ONLY what you need, when you need it, using the legit codec source.
