  1. I was reading on different forums, that the latest version of nero had support for dvd9 and would insert layer breaks. What version is that?, I went to they nero website and they have 6.6.0.3.

When I installed it and loaded it up. It only gave me support for up to 4.5gb<dvd5> now I only have a single layer burner, I'm trying to find everything for a project I'm working on before I start tossing money around for hardware.

So my question is, is there some other version I don't know about or is that the right version its just it won't give me dual layer support until I install a dual layer drive?

Simple enough question so heres the simple answer
You need a dl burner for that option to become available when using nero

    Hello,

    Ditto with what south_oz said.

Though some single layer drives have hacked firmware for dual layer support. But - USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.... (almost certainly would void any warranty you have left).

    To do what?

You need to buy a double layer burner.

You also need double layer blanks, which are pretty scarce right now and are way too expensive.

    Hello,

He's referring to dual layer writing firmware hacks... Though personally I wouldn't even try that on a single layer - you might end up ruining it and have to buy a double layer anyway

Hackable DVD-Burner, NEC 2500a, I hacked it to do DL and now hacked it to be a NEC 2510a to support Ritek DL disc's. Burnt a Ritek DL disc with the 2510 hack and the disc plays fine on my DVD-rom and burners but has probm's with my Denon 2910 standalone DVD player at the layer change.

You left part of my statement off.

  9. Slightly off topic but reading about firmware to make your drive read dl, I was wondering, I have a nec 6500a and when I have tried to use the ritek dl disks, I can't get it to work. At first I thought that nero wasn't reading the disk but info tools reads it as a dl disk. So I'm wondering if there is a firmware available to make nero use this disk. Thanks.

  11. ok I found that page but was confused cause it had my burner and some firmware updates but didn't really say what they did, or if they were official one. I was looking for a hacked version to give my pioneer A06/106 dual layer capabilities but the site doesn't say either way, anybody know?

Thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately nothing other than a region hack is available for my drive.

@hoppy12 - You're NEC 6500 is a DL burner. The only version of firmware that supports burning Ritek DL is ver 2.23. The firmware and flasher can be found here

    ****WARNING****

It seems these slimline burners can be configured in any mode (including cable select), and there have been issues with flashing firmware. Read all the posts at the link above, and make your own decision. I assume no responsibility for what you do.

  15. Thanks tekkieman, I know this is a dl burner but I just can't get it to burn ritek dl. I checked out the site and it appears to be exactly what I need, so thanks again. As far as I know there are only ritek and verbatim dl disks out now, do you know of anymore?

  16. Tekkieman, upon further review of your web selection, I again say thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for, haven't experienced that on a forum yet!

This is a great place, and you'll always find an answer here (you may not like it, and it can sometimes be tongue-in-cheek), but always an answer! Glad I could help. Last I saw, there were four DL manufacturers, but only Verbatim and Ritek seem to be generally available.

Be warned, Riteks have not seemed to have great reliability...
