Is there a way I can put a code/password so that the discs can only be played when a series of buttons are pressed?

  2. Hide them.
    Hide the player.
I don't think there is a code that locks dvd's.

I have the 2nd USA NTSC DVD release of TERMINATOR 2 (the most recent release was release number 3) but my point is there is an "easter egg" where you have to punch in a date as I recall (I think the JUDGEMENT DAY date) and that will allow you to watch a special super extended version of the movie, or something like that. That DVD had what is known as branching and none of my DVD players ever liked it for that reason.

So I guess it would be possible but I imagine it would require a very "high level" DVD authoring program ... something like DVD Maestro or Sonic Scenarist.

So in short it probably is not worth doing.

Plus anyone that knows what they are doing can RIP the DVD and extract the video and create a new "unlocked" version of it.

I have DVDs that contain adult content that I don't want others to view. I'm thinking perhaps a secret (invisible) menu (or what FulciLives said, an "easter egg").

DVD-Lab has a keypad lock feature. I've never tried it, so not sure how easy it is to do, but there is a tutorial on the web site:-

That tutorial shouldn't even still be there as it's way out of date and redundant. DVD-lab has a drop-in component where you just follow the simple instructions and you're done. Of course, this doesn't prevent anyone with a DVD drive from viewing the .VOBs directly.

That tutorial looks really complicated, I don't think I'm up to doing that.

I think that's only available in DVD-Lab Pro, not the standard version.

Edit - sorry it is in the standard version 1.4 beta 2, but I don't think that's available on the web site any more.

That sounds much easier, I'll try that when I get the chance.

I can't remember if the standard version supports components so I didn't mention it. When a new standard version appears, it's possible it will contain components. Either way, there's a beta of the pro version to download and test for suitability.

  14. you can do it in any authoring program. Just make a menu with 9 buttons on it labelled 1 - 9. then copy this menu 3 times (3 numbers should be enough).

Now, only one of the buttons on the first menu goes to the second menu. Only one of the buttons on the second menu goes to the third menu. And only one button on the third menu plays the movie.
The rest of the "incorrect" buttons just go back to the first menu. You could put a "return to main menu" button on each of the menus too. The key is that all 3 menus look identical so the user doesn't know if they have advanced to the second/third menu or gone back to the first.

Only you know the correct 3 number sequence that plays the content. Simple.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.
