Please don't hijack threads. Start a new for a new question.
No it's not possible. You can make it harder by filling out your disk with dummy data/video at the end, then physically damage (scratch) the outer edge of the disk, where the dummy data will be.

The age old question:
"How do I keep other people from copying my videos if I don't want them to?"
The answer:
Don't give your videos to other people.
I film high school pageants(sp?) a couple times a year. We sell the discs for $10 a piece usually. We know that once the kids get a hold of them there will be no more sold. They'll make copies for other kids. So we take orders for a week or so and deliver them all at once not expecting to ever sell any more. It's the nature of the beast in this game.

I have experimented and come up with a way to make DVD's uncopyable by the current ripping software and therefore virtually uncopyable by the casual copier - without physically damaging the disc. It is possible. Granted a pro can redo anything that can be played. 99.9% of casual copiers cannot. The bride and groom's nephew won't be able to burn everybody a copy. They will have to buy copies.
If I tell you my technics the ripping software coders' will figure out a crack. Just know it is possible. I'm sure there are a bunch of ways. I started by targeting the currently available ripping software. I was looking for ticks that tripped up the rippers. When you find a fault keep it to yourself. Lose lips sink ships!
On all these sites there are self-appointed wise ones. You can believe them or me. Good luck! Nothing is impossible.

What is it with the rash of these types of posts lately? Is no one reading the freaking stickies or FAQ here?
If your flippin' videos are that good, show us you Academy Awards. If everyone is copying your amateur work, be flattered that they even care.
As a democratically elected wise one, I decree that you not take videobread seriously. Even though he is independently wealthy from his licensed copy-protection scheme, the average 1-click video producer cannot protect their videos.
Here's my standard respons from now on:
================================
Some suggestions:
1. Don't loan out your DVDs.
2. If this is a personal business, price fairly for originals and backups, or allow for backing up at a slightly higher price.
3. If there is no money involved, or any "real" loss, don't worry about it. If someone wants to copy your fantastic footage of a school play, you should be flattered that they think so highly of your work.
4. If you are trying to prevent friends or family fom copying it, you have much bigger problems than copy-protection.

Well, if there was ever a topic that should be considered as permanently banned, this would probably be the one. videobread had an interesting comment in another thread on this subject where he mentioned that simply putting the name of a film in between <> was enough to stump a lot of rippers out there. I can believe that. I'm sure a lot of rippers just assumed that either a letter or a number would be the first character of a name and they flipped out when confronted with something else. Perhaps he does know some ways that will work. At least stantheman1976 has a realistic approach to this. If someone is really interested, paying for a commercial pressing house to press the DVDs with CSS would defeat a lot of people. It won't defeat any current rippers, but a lot of people don't know how to do anything more complicated than Nero disc to disc copy and CSS will certainly defeat that.

For those who claim it is impossible, I have listed some movies titles that in the last six months tripped up the rippers:
Ratatoulle - 19,111
Hairspray - 1,516
Spider Man 3 - 1,366
Deja Vu - 30,315
Casino Royal - 30,993
The Queen - 8,921
Apocalypto - 14,466
Blades of Glory - 3,391
The numbers are views from this forum. Each of these titles would not rip when the casual copier pressed GO. Within a sort period the ripping software coders' came up with a fix. These titles prove that it is possible to make discs that cannot be copied by 99.9% of the casual copying community. Go back and look at each of these titles and see what change they made that tripped up the rippers. That's a good place to start. Monitor the ripping section of this forum for new titles that people are having problems with. Think of it as hacking the ripping software.
When you, a small content creator, find a weak spot in the rippers use it, but keep it to yourself. Hope that it never comes to the attention of the ripping software coding community. They will be able to patch your hack. Saty under the radar.

The casual ripper who does not upgrade his software will encounter titles which will not rip. Unless you are buying on release day, the latest ripper releases will generally have been updated to handle new tittles. Certainly all of videobread's list.
Turn on automatic check for updates for your ripping software and you will have few titles to post problems about.
As a small content provider, do not expect to be able to exploit any of the reported problems.
1. You are not licensing the protections.
2. Unless you are highly technical, they will be beyond your ability to implement.

Overburning falls outside of DVD-Video specs and risks not being playable at all.

It seems after all that both Midzuki and Lordsmurf was right, "prot_dvd" was indeed "nothing important" and "crap". None of my friends has however yet been able to copy my dvd's by using disc copy, copying the files from the dvd to the hdd and burning them onto another dvd, or ripping the dvd.

No offense, but your friends are probably just dumber than you are, as it regards this exact topic. We're not going to be that easy to fool.

Wow. The subject was inviting, but the posts in this thread are BAD.
If you don't have anything useful to say, please refrain from posting your intelligence on the subject, or lack thereof...
you just turn it into useless drivel, that benefits only your ego....
...so the bottom line is, there still is no useful answer as to how to copy protect your own DVDs in this thread...
I have a method, but its a bit unorthodox, and its not foolproof, by any means, but depending on whom you're trying to prevent copying, and how smart/dumb a 'hacker' they are, this is probably going to work for the majority of lay persons trying to use dvd shrink, decrypter, or similar...
