I don't think this is specifically an authoring problem at all, but I guess it could be coz I don't know anything about DVD authoring yet.

I've used DVD-lab Pro to author a DVD-SVCD out of an M2V elementary MPEG-2 video stream created with TMPGEnc Plus and a 48kHz MP2 elementary audio stream also made with TMPGEnc + tooLAME.

The video plays perfectly in both players no drama. Unfortunately one player (Sony DVP-NS415) doesn't play the sound at all. Anyone got any idea why that may be?

Like I said I don't think it can be an authoring problem because my other DVD player which is much cheaper and nastier than the Sony plays the video perfectly c/w sound.

Did you add a menu with audio ?
If so, was it the same type (i.e. mp2) as the movie ? You cannot mix and match within a single title set and expect all players to like it. Few will.

Try letting DVD Lab change the audio for you, and see if this helps.

Thanks for the reply but umm, I don't know. I've only had the burner for 3 days and DVD-lab Pro for less than one, so I'm about as n00balicious as they come atm.

I *did* get a warning about something to do with menus before I compiled the DVD but it wasn't a critical warning and i ignored it and DVD-lab let me proceed anyway. I wasn't going for any menus or subtitles or multiple audio streams or any other fancy stuff - I'm just strictly at the stage of wanting video and audio and getting it to play.

I'll cap the error warning message and post it here - maybe it'll help the diagnosis.

Here's the error message I get and don't know how to get rid of. Does this sound like the source of the problem?

The weird thing is that the sample DVD-SVCD I downloaded from this site plays perfectly *with* sound in both my players including the Sony I experiencing the problem with, so I must have done something it doesn't like somewhere.

It would seem that my Sony DVD player can't handle MP2 audio on DVD. Weird because it has no dramas playing (S)VCD at all. Anyway, I reauthored the DVD this time with AC-3 audio and voila! we have sound!
