Id like to backup crouching tiger, and remove the menus and so on in the process.
I have followed the guide on this site for using DVD Decrypter but when I then try to open the folder in DVD Shrink it states 'failed to open file vts_01_0.vob. Fair enough, so I then rip the VTS_01_o.vob from the disc and reload into DVD Shrink, and it then says "Failed to open VTS_02_0.IFO.
I thought that by selecting the movie files only, and also -
Video_ts.ifo
Video_ts.vob
Video_ts.bup
and also vob IDs
VTS_01_1.vob through to VTS_01_5 vob...
.. it would do the trick, but I cant get it through DVD Shrink, and when I burn using the DVD-Video option in nero it says that the compliance check failed. I carry on regardless and the movie doesnt play.
Any advice on what Im doing wrong is appreciated.

I got the same trouble as you got when I used DVD Decrypter to rip just the movie only... But then I tried to rip the whole DVD and used Reauthor mode in DVD Shrink to get just the movie only... guess what.. It worked.... Try this way see if it works for you. Good luck!

When I try to use DVD Shrink it wants me to change the region to R2, which Id rather not do when I think I should be able to do this.

I've been having a similar prob. Using DVDDecrypter to rip in file mode, automatically selecting all files, and then opening in DVDShrink I get 'failed to open file video_ts.vob' I open the folder and find video_ts_menu_01.vob so I delete the _menu_01 part of it (or is it _01_menu, oh well, anyway) so it now is just video_ts.vob and guess what? DVDShrink opens, shrinks, burns just fine. This is happening everytime. Where are these menu things coming from? I'm sure it's just something that needs to be checked or unchecked, and it's minor since I found the problem, but it did have me confused and I would like to resolve.

DVDShrink does a preview of the entire disc when you load the files, be they from the disc or from your HD. If you're going to rip with another program, make sure you rip all of the files, either in file mode, or even in ISO Read mode.
@HatchetMan:
I don't know where DVDDecrypter's getting the _menu_ part from, ebcause that isn't DVD compliant. If you explore the disc itself, are the files named properly ?If in doubt, Google it. -
Ok I have a DVD which I am wanting to extract just the movie from. I try to launch with DVD Shrink and it says 'Invalid DVD Navigation Structure', I cant go no further.
Ill then load it with DVD Decrypter in 'movie' mode and it will select the rqd VOB files and an IFO.
According to the guide on this site - http://www.thescrapyard.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/files/video/using%20freeware%20utilities%...r%20movies.htm - , I need to also select -
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
Which I do, and then rip.
After ripping the files to my HD, Ill load up DVD Shrink as I want to remove audio tracks etc, but it still says 'Failed to open file /filepath/VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_0.VOB
I can burn the files at that point, Nero will complain at the compliance check, and the disc wont play in my player, nor in Power DVD.
So Ill copy the Reqd VTS_01_0.VOB file DVD Shrink asks for and try again and it states "Invalid data in VTS_01_1.VOB". By which time Im ready to give up..
There must be a way I can simply rip the 4-5 VOB files making up the movie, into a new disc without menus, warnings and so on. The guide doesnt seem to work for me :/ -
Run DVD Decryptor in FILE mode and select ALL files to extract to your HDD. This is important !!!!! When that is completed THEN use DVD Shrink to select only the movie.
Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity. -
I agree with Jim, rip with DVDDecrypter in ISO mode (READ) then use shrink on the .iso.
-
Ive tried ripping all the files on the DVD with DVD Decrypter, and also ISO read mode and neither will open in DVD shrink. 1st method, says its invalid data in vts_01_1.vob, second says simply - invalid navigation structure.

does your original dvd your ripping from play ?
after you rip the dvd to your harddisk does the ripped dvd play off your harddrive ?
i use jims method ( On this same dvd as well ) without problem -
There appears to be some bogus vob refrences in some dvd's that confuses shrink, intentional or accidental I don't know, but shrink will not open these files, ripped or not. You may have to use a different transcoder like dvd2one or pinnacle instantcopy, or if the disc doesn't need shrinking you can simply reauthor from ripped files using you favorite author software that supports vob or VIDEO_TS importing. You could reencode using dvdrb or one of the other one click reencoding packages.
