  1. My digital camera (HP R707) creates MPG video files at 320x240 @ 29.97 frames a second. The audio track is 44 KHz mono @ 96 Kbps.

When I play back this video through the xbox media center software the audio is nothing bug sharp crackling / popping (fine when I play through my pc).

Is there any way for me to convert just the audio track inside an mpg file?

What software could I use to do this.

I was playing around with VirtualDub and it would appear I could do it by converting the mpg to an avi (and converting the audio at the same time) and then converting the avi back to an mpg but this seems like a real pain.

    Any tips would be appreciated.

With ffMPEG or mencoder you could re-encode the audio whilst copying the video straight to a new mpg, however seeing has how XBMC is based on mplayer they may also just get the shark crackling.

I would simply de-mux the .MPG file (use TMPGEnc, etc) , then convert the extracted audio to something compatible w/ your XBox (not sure what the requirements are...), then re-mux the original extracted video with the processed audio.
    You can't fool me, I'm a moron!
