    Hello,

I use Norton. Why? That was the first I used and never saw a reason to switch.

AVG (Free version). I used Norton for some time, but tried AVG and liked it. No problems, no viruses. I use it on four different machines. I also use Spybot, Adaware, Peerguardian and a hardware and SP2 firewall on a cable modem.

You know, a poll would have made things a lot clearer for those interested in the results.

    Anyway,

Panda A/V Platinum for me. I don't actually own it but I've used it before and it was really good.

I don't use antivirus at home. I'm running Windows 98SE and I often check to see whats running and when I see a virus/adware/spyware running I manually delete it. Not even a big deal. Antivirus slows down your computer way too much, and since I've gone to only using web base email and deleting everything with an attachment before opening or anything from an unknown user I haven't had problems.

That, and the fact that almost everybody has an antivirus helps protect people. We're all a big network and if most nodes of it are protected against virii, it's very hard for a virus to propogate.

I recently ran a free scan and it claimed to delete a virus on my machine, but I can say in truth that in ten years I've had absolutely nothing wrong that I can attribute to a virus, besides the occasional nasty worm at work that spreads very quickly.

Norton AV. Our company provides employees free copies on CD for use on our home machines. They have an unlimited license and figure it'll reduce the chances of one getting transferred to a work machine and then on to the 12,500 PCs we have on the network here.

  27. I use Avast Antivirus, its free for home use. It seems very good and is very good at scanning for viruses, I'll put in a floppy to get a .doc file off of it and Avast immediately comes up saying that there is a macro virus in the .doc file. I'm happy with it. You can dl it at www.spychecker.com

  28. AVG.

I have a bad impression of Norton, but since there are so many versions, I don't know if it is restricted to only particular versions.

On several friends' PCs, they installed the default "free" Norton AV that came with their computer and kept it updated. This didn't stop a number of them being infected with viruses/worms. Ditto on my parent's PC that was running a slightly older version of McAfee VS (version 6).

AVG seemed to clear it out just fine... and it is much lighter on resources.

    Regards.

  29. I am running Norton AntiVirus 2005. Good, reliable and user-friendly (I find). Also, it doesn't seem to slow my PC down much at all.
