  1. I know I'm a newbie but can't seem to find the answers anywhere.
I've authored a DVD using TMPGenc DVD Author, creating a menu and a number of chapters. Everything works great on the PC, but when I go to play the DVD on my home standalone player, I can't get the menu and chapters to display, and pressing play or menu on the remote starts playing the track (there is only one track). There is no title button on the remote.. just info, guide, menu, subtitle.
Is this a possible limitation of the player (it's an RCA RC220N). I haven't tried another player yet, or am I doing something wrong?

I have the menu display set to display main menu.

    Thanks for your help.

  2. It could be worth it to try playing your DVD in some other DVD player. I used TMpegEnc DVD Author and it works fine, although I dont like it. :P I have a philips home theater system and it plays all the menus and everything fine

Besides, check in the settings and you should set them so that the movie plays on at the end of the chapter and should not loop or stop playing. There is a setting for that as well

  3. Thanks Skullfullomagots.. looks like I will try to find another player and try it again. I haven't found any other info on what I might be doing wrong. I actually don't mind using TMPGenc DVD Author and I'm pretty sure I've followed everything.. plus the fact it plays no problem on my PC DVD player.

  4. Some DVD players skip over the menus and go straigt to the video. This might be happening in your case too.

  5. Aanaravw - thanks for the response. I was thinking that might be the case, yet if I play a commercial DVD (e.g. - Shrek), I'm presented with a menu to look at scene selections, etc.. so I'm not sure why it wouldn't be the case with my DVD..

  6. Do you have a video playing before the menu by any chance?

  7. Make sure the "FirstPlay Action" in the upper right is set to display main menu and not play first track or playy all tracks.

  8. Hi...

Aanaravs - no I didn't author it to play a clip right away.. on my PC it goes straight to the menu (It has a background image, a button for Scene Selections and a button for Play All). When I put it in the home DVD player, it comes up with what appears to be a default menu, with Play, Play Mode, Display, Language.. stuff like that.

TBoneit - Yes, I have the 'First Play Action' set to Main Menu.

    Thanks for your help..

  9. Is it possible that you put some files in the dvd root that are confusing the player? For \example my sony changer chokes if I titlewrite the DVD before burning & I put the backup IFOs in another directory for example \bu

Could your player be seeing something besides VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders?

I have a Apex that can play MPG, MP3 & JPG. I have a feeling that mixing them up on the same disk with a DVD could cause problems, Haven't tested.

But it sounds like a player problem at this point. Can you take the same disk to other players to see what happens?

    Good Luck

  10. Hi TBoneit - thanks for the reply. When I burned the DVD, I used the DVD Writing Tool in TMPGenc DVD Author which I believe just goes and get the VOLUME files (which contain the VIDEO/AUDIO-ts stuff).

One thing I did as the background image on the Main Menu screen, was to import a JPEG from a personal pic. I wonder if this might have done something.

Anyways I will try it on another player.. if it doesn't work I may be back.

    Thanks for all your help.
