What, in your opinion, is the ultimate example of the quintessential rock song. Not only a song that fits the bill as a rock song, but runs the gamot as far as:

    Great intro riff
    Great lyrics
    Great guitar solo
    Thumping drum beat...

    The whole deal...

    My opinion...

Shot Down In Flames - AC/DC
    Train, Train - Blackfoot

    Hello,

Not that I'm into heavy metal too much but:

    Sandman - Metallica
Jump - Van Halen (Bon Jovi?? I always get those too mixed up)

    Essentials:

    Heavy guitar action
    Beat pounding drum action
    Decent vocals

(Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight is an excellent example of all of the above )

    Kevin
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

Phil Collins does qualify. I would consider "In The Air Tonight" a rock song.

This is not limited to Metal only.

Led Zeppelin- We're Gonna Groove (Led Zeppelin double DVD version, not from Coda)

    Other quintessential rock tunes:

Led Zeppelin- In The Evening (DVD version equally good as or better than studio)

Led Zeppelin- Achilles Last Stand (DVD version equally good as or better than studio)

    Pink Floyd- Dogs (studio version)

    My vote for this category:

#1 goes to "Won't Get Fooled Again" (The Who)

#2: "Baba O'Riley" (a.k.a. 'Teenage Wasteland', also by The Who)

    Others:

"Highway Star" or "Woman from Tokyo" - Deep Purple (I also agree with "Smoke on the Water")

"I'm Your Captain" - Grand Funk RR

and probably more that don't come to mind immediately.

Yes! But Yes doesn't rock the way Deep Purple does IMO.
Favorite "rock" song by Yes: "Sound Chaser" (from the 'Relayer' LP). The bass and drums on that are amazing.

Actually, I also think anything by DP qualifies. The Purple rocks!

But if I had to choose just a couple, those are my favorites, esp. "Woman from Tokyo". I like how it starts to fade toward the end, then blasts you with a drum solo that'll blow your speakers if your stereo is powerful enough.

Yes, mixed up for a minute but then realized and edited (see above). Drama = my least favorite Yes LP. In fact, I've still got a sealed LP I never opened, because a friend (another Yes fan) had it and I copied it to cassette. I didn't like it nearly as much as Close to the Edge, Fragile, Relayer and Topographic O.

Even 90125 was better. I also think Drama was one of their lowest selling LP's, if I'm not mistaken (not sure though).

What's your favorite Yes album? I'd have to say Close to the Edge, overall (no weak cuts) - though obviously my favorite song by them is Roundabout.

Oh ok. I though I had a little blackout for a second and I edited my post.

    What's your favorite Yes album?
Hate to say this but my favorite is Drama. I found it is more rock-oriented than the others.

After that, I like "Going for the One" (mostly because of the gratuitous man-butt nudity ).

    And then "The Yes Album".

Haven't listened too much Yes in a while actually, EXCEPT today when I listened to all of Drama and Tormato on my MP3CD player. What are the chances?

Personal fav. would be boston's first album and the monster hit more than a feeling.
I think Lord Smurf would be thinking of "bohemian rhapsody" from queen.

For a great chick band in rock "Heart"
Magic man, barricuda, and the cherry on the ice cream would be "crazy on you". Listen to that little ditty -garman
