ac3 6 channel dolby audio

keep getting audio sync problems. have ac3 acm decompressor installed, tried converting ac3 to wave using, goldwave, virtualDub 1.5, headac3he but get the same result when converting the avi with tmpg sound and video out of sync.
have used forum guide for conversion also garry's guide coverting avi to svcd. Have spent days trying to covert so any help would be appreciated.
Is 5 channel conversion same as 6 channel? G spot tells me the sound is ac3 (0x2000) "Dolby Laboratories,

Is it constantly out of sink or does it progress over
time? Have you accounted for AC3 delay if needed?

out of sync from the beginning. had to add 2.7sec of silence with goldwave to correct. took ages to get to 2.7 what is the ac3 delay. never handled ac3 sound before?
