Hi,
I am new to authoring DVD. So far I have created two DVD's using dvdSanta program. They worked just fine and had no problem watching DVD on TV. dvdSanta does have a facility to create menus, chapters etc. It is a very basic program. Since I have created simple DVD's using dvdSanta, I would like try creating DVD's that have chapters, menus. etc. But I don't know which programs to use. Can anyone recommend any other programs? Basically I am looking for easy to use program as dvdSanta that will allow me to create chapters, etc.
thanks,
greenmetal

Hello,
Check out the tools section on the left
Tmpgenc dvd author, dvdlab, ulead dvd movie factory are just a few that have menu creation capabilities.

TMPGenc DVD Author is a very simple dvd authoring program, but i find it limited. I use DVD Lab, it's a little harder to learn but much more flexable...

My suggestion:
Easy: TMPGENC DVD AUTHOR (TDA)
Advanced: ULEAD DVD WORKSHOP 2Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

You say you are new to dvd authoring, so I would recommend Tmpgec Dvd Author. Easy to use, free trial period, does what I want. As your experience progresses you can go to a more advanced program, but like me you might find TDA is all you need.

Just out of curiosity... in what way do you find it limited ?Originally Posted by trickyman

I too think it is kinda limited, but luckily almost everything I want to do is within those limitsOriginally Posted by Noahtuck

As an example, it is not real easy to set a firstplay title that plays as soon as you put the DVD in, and takes you to the menu afterwards, and is then not accessible from anywhere. For example, a disclaimer/copyright notice, or advertisement for your business. You can do it, but it is a heck of a lot easier to do in DVD-lab, or even by hacking VIDEO_TS.IFO than it is to do in TDA.If in doubt, Google it. -
Horrible font controls (just awful aliasing), and it's known to not properly link menu buttons. Everything is a title, and the MENU button won't work on players. No firstplay. Burning engine can make coasters (not the disc or file fault, bad burning engine).Originally Posted by Noahtuck

I'm pretty sure can only create 2 channel AC3 with it BUT if your AC3 audio track is already DVD compliant you can set it to not convert.Originally Posted by Michelle

All I could find is that it creates Dolby Digital audio.Originally Posted by lordsmurf

I remember when I looked at Workshop 1, when I added AC3 and MPEG tracks, there was no way to tell if the program considered them compliant or not. Is that still the case?Originally Posted by thecoalman

I came across this information when researching how to insert 5.1 using DVDWS 1, I,ve never actually tried it but this info was on the Ulead Forum so I'm assuming it's correct.Originally Posted by Michelle
Not sure how to confirm they are compliant with 2. I never have this issue since all my video is compliant before it gets to DVDWS, there may be a better way but in DVDWS 1 when you click the the start button to begin burning you can watch the progress bar. I think it's the second step where it verifies the video and converts(if neccesary). Should only take a few seconds if it's compliant.
