  1. I'm getting a printer which can print on DVDs - probably the R200. I have the impression that the included software is not very good for creating my own labels/images (what's the right term to use here?). What software would be better?

  2. For making your images. Adobe Photoshop would be the best i think, or Paint shop.

  3. I'm not sure if I explained what I want properly. I'm not actually going to create my own artwork. I'll be combining an existing image or two with text. I know I could do that in Photoshop but setting up a template to use with a DVD seems rather complicated unless I can find one premade.

    What's hard about it?

    File ->NEW

    300dpi, white background,

then take out a ruler and measure your case to input case dimensions.

    Template?

    Ohhhhh....... in THAT case....

I would suggest changing the title to
"what software to make disc art for R200"

... and those R200 owners will surely help you out.

I would still use photoshop for the art, but you'll need something else for the layout and printing of it. Maybe the R200 comes with something?

  13. go into PS and create a new file 120mm x 120mm
    600dpi / transperant background
    select the eliptical marquee tool
    select fixed size 118mm x 118mm
click on the background. then use the arrow keys to center it
goto "select" and click on inverse
use paint bucket to fill in outside area

do the same thing for the middle hole at 22mm (print to hub), but do not select inverse

    save file as template

    done

PS, change mm to match your CD/DVD's actual size

I use the SureThing CD labeling package and it will print directly to a DVD on my R200. It will also import images from photoshop or any other imaging program.

I use photoshop to create the artwork.
Then I import the file in Print CD (Epson R200 bundled s/w).
    Easy.
The Print CD s/w can also do a couple of simple things like text placement, rotation, color gradation, etc.

I cannot seem to get the hub hole lined up 100%, but this works.
I didn't know you could instruct actual size on the eliptical tool. Very nice.

    Right-click, save as:

You're on your own for hub holes.

    magnify to 400%
    reselct eliptical tool
    count squares on each side
use arrow keys until all squares are equal
once it's line up use paint bucket to fill center hole

    done

PS, I'm assumming you did the same thing for the outside ring too
Or it will not line up right if you don't

I downloaded the trial this morning. When you create a new label you get a wizard that asks you to select label stock. What do you use for the R200?

  19. Thanks stiltman. I've only used PS for photo editing. Although I've used adjustment layers, it looks like I'll have to dig out my PS books to use PS to create this.

no books needed, just do it

now once you add your art work to new layers on top of the template, you're on your own

stiltman, the only measurement I can get is cm, so I've just been dividing by 10 to get mm. However, 22mm is 2.2cm (unless my metric is screwed up), and that seems awfully small.

So far, you've shown me 2 new PS tricks AND in one day. Congrats. Been a long time since somebody could do that.

In PS 7 or CS for the eliptical tool, just type 118mm and click the next box, type 118mm and click back to the first box....

    When opening a new file, the drop down box should have;
pixels, inches, cm, mm, points, picas. Just choose mm

    33x117 for ProDisc silver injet
22x118 for ProDisc white print to hub
15x117 is a hub label applyed to a regular printable cd/dvd

I found that opion for the eliptical and square by chance. I was just messing around and did it. Took me a little while later to firgure out how I did it they time before.

Actually, I don't use a perfect circle when I'm modifying my labels if I'm inporting from my scanner. Seems my scanner is a little off
I have to set it to H 118 W116 to trim the outsides. Then I copy and paste it into a new file. Then I stretch it out to 118. Pain in the butt I know...I usually don't trim the inside hole

    Using PS6 here.

Yeah, I knew about the eliptical tool, it was exact sizing I did not know. But I have to right click and go to a menu, which bring up exact sizing to input numbers. I did not know that was possible, dug around where you said set numbers.

I usually do guiders by eyesight or exact measure. The new guides from the dropdown menu is in cm/in/etc, not % ... but manually typing in 50% worked too. Other new trick.

What I was saying is that 22mm seems awfully small, too small, for the hole. Are you sure that's the hub hole measure?

I can verify that. I have been using 22mm on the Prodisc Hub Printables.
