  1. im trying to frameserve from virtualdub to mainconcept, using VFAPI as a go between for the 2, this used to work well b4 i formated and reinistalled, now i cant get the VFAPI to work.

before, all i would do is load up the VDR file into VFAPI then hit convert, it would take about 2 mins and then i could load the resulting AVI into mainconcept for conversion ....

NOW, when i hit convert in VFAPI it just sits there doing nothing ..... well i get a quick flash in the options section as if its trying to start but it just shows AVI ??????????. However if i untick "VIDEO OUTPUT BY VFAPI READER CODEC" it works ok but very ..... very .... slowly

anyone know where ive gone wrong, ive got divx, xvid, 3divx, avisynth, dvd2svcd and obviously vfapi codec thing all installed

AVI ??????????. is what it always shows (for me)..

BUT - you do not need VFAPI for main concept anyway ..

just load the VDR file .. as long as you have v-dub frame serving installed correctly ..

  3. does it show avi ??????? with a percentage after it as it is encoding? mine shows the percentage for about quarter of a second then thats it

also if i try it direct without using VFAPI i just get a green screen in the encoded output

  4. dunno how, but ive got it workin noo, beats me what i done, i think it might have been something to with no audio or the proxy settings ......

thanks a lot for your help anyway, if you could tell me how i might be able to do this without using VFAPI i would be very grateful as VFAPI seems to slow it down a little ???

not sure if anything special needs to be done to use vdr directly -- you might try turning off some of the import types in main concept ..

it just works far as i knew ... you could also rename the *.vdr file to *.avs or *.avi as those tricks help fool some apps ..

you can also turn on or off the avi file handler for v-dub (the on and off bat files)

  6. Seeing as you already have avisynth why not frameserve directly from that?

On my old box, I had no problem frameserving from VDub to MainConcept, but on my new puter, all I get is the green screen (preview/output) as described above. I can frameserve to TMPGEnc fine, and enabling/disabling import filters in various configurations doesn't improve matters. But AviSynth works just as well - tho not as "easy" for a quick encode.
